The last session of the Alabama Legislature took tiny steps when it comes to accomplishing any real serious issues plaguing the state. Prisons, health care’ medicaid” and the gambling bill all wound up in the trash can.

A plus was a bill that allowed alcohol to be delivered to your home, that was a top priority.

Medical Marijuana gained some traction. It should be noted that Mexico and Canada have legalized recreation use. “The recreational use of cannabis is legalized in 17 states, the District of Columbia, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam. Another 13 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands have decriminalized its use.”

“Medical marijuana is a start. A baby-step start I didn’t think I’d ever see on my watch in this state. It’s another tool in the utility belt for doctors. It will help sick children. It will help dying people feel more comfortable in their final days. Compassion. It’s a good thing. It can be tweaked to be better.”

Yoga is now legal !

The 1993 Alabama ban on Yoga has been embarrassing this state for almost 30 years. This should wake up citizens to the nonsense on goat hill.

The state Board of Education passed a regulation barring yoga from public schools in 1993 because of yoga’s ties to the Hindu religion.

Kick the can!

The politicians again kicked the can down the gaming road. Big politics, lot’s of money and corruption stand in the way to a lottery or gaming bill. Alabama citizens are the losers, our neighbors are the winners.

Opinion | The 2021 Legislative Session: Lots of talk, little action

“Gambling was going to pay for health care. It was going to pay for broadband expansion. It was going to cut taxes.

But gambling is a big thing. And if the 2021 legislative session proved anything at all, it’s that the Alabama Legislature doesn’t do big things.”

Baldwin County’s State Senator “DUI” Elliott, flip lopped on the gaming bill and was in favor for tolls. While some serious issues were falling through the cracks Elliott decided that now he was a State Senator he would even an old score. Trouble is his little vendetta will cost a very good program millions and deprive homeowners assistance in fortifying their roofs.

Lagniappe’s previous articles have exposed Elliott’s attempts to halt funding for SAH. Elliott has seized the opportunity to settle an old score, where he was dismissed, as a contractor, for wanting personal information that would favor him in the bidding process.

Grant director discusses status of fortified roof program

In February, State Rep. Chip Brown of Mobile County introduced a bill to increase the amount of funding to the program. It passed the House by a vote of 96-1 but was subsequently stalled by State Sen. Chris Elliott, R-Fairhope, and others, citing concerns of transparency and equitability. Elliott, a licensed contractor, had been removed from the program in 2016 after being accused of “profiling” and “cherry-picking” applicants.

SAH, Strengthen Alabama Homes director Brian Powell said:

“Powell claims the program provides a 6-to-1 return on investment by keeping residents in their homes after storms and providing savings on insurance premiums that can be spent elsewhere in the local economy. He admits the bill’s defeat is a setback, but said he is committed to working with legislators in 2022 to introduce something more palatable.”

“I hope funding is available to help the people that won’t get it this year because of this,” he said. “There are at least 200 people or more that won’t receive these benefits this year. This is really a sad case of economics when you are not putting money into a program that is doing a lot of good to help a lot of people.”

Elliott does not deserve another term as a State Senator. Stay tuned, another Elliott story will soon break.

If Catalyst/SBC wants Elliot to remain on the State Senate then he will be re-elected. Do NOT ever buck the machine. This is Catalyst Country and you are just in it. Remember this and things will make better sense to all of you in Baldwin County. No go to work at your second job so you can make mortgage payments on this cheaply built and overpriced houses you all bought for Belaton, DR Horton, and Truland.

  2. I don’t understand it. Everybody smokes weed in the legislature. What a bunch of freaking hypocritical jerkoffs. Police jave better things to be dealing with. Wake up Alabama.

  3. Brent Dorfman | May 21, 2021 at 4:36 pm |

Elliott is a catalysts wet dream.

  4. Goonsquad | May 21, 2021 at 4:57 pm |

Elliott wants to toll us and say he’s against taxes.

  5. The Alabama legislature does not do very well on big things and that is now obvious. I am not aware that they are able small things with any greater finesse.

  6. Bertha N Daphne | May 22, 2021 at 6:26 am |

Size matters. Alabama cannot handle big things.

  7. Longtimer fh | May 22, 2021 at 2:21 pm |

Baby steps when they are light years away from civilization. Alabama is bass ackwards if there ever was. Kay Ivey seems.lost and the legislature is too busy stealing.

Ripp is trying to be positive. We have to start somewhere. Getting rid of Elliott would be a good start. He is not a conservative and hardly a Christian as far as I can tell. But why is that the standard? How about if he votes well and looks out for people in his district? We need someone who will fight for Baldwin County and the Eastern Shore. Our traffic problems are going to need funding soon. We are getting locked into a bad situation on the eastern shore I’m afraid and we’re gonna need to widen 98 or we will be waiting all the time in traffic. The new homes and apartments are going up left and right.

    • Catalyst is evil | May 23, 2021 at 8:45 am |

The traffic is caused by out of control growth. The out of control growth is because the builders make more profit when they build
They make more profit because they don’t have to fund the infrastructure. Even when Diamondhead built Lake Forest they had to build a sewer plant But today’s developers don’t need to do anything to build out the infrastructure because they put into office candidates that will make the residents pay for the growth. We the same residents that have previously paid for our infrastructure.
Catalysts steal from Baldwin County’s people. In another state this bunch would be in prison for racketeering, conspiracy, corruption and theft under the RICO statute

    • Anonymous | May 23, 2021 at 8:53 am |

How about a moratorium in housing projects and apartments?

    • Anonymous | May 23, 2021 at 9:13 am |

Elliott is a Christian Conservative. He leads a Bible study group in one of the most prestigious churches in Fairhope where all the important people go.
If you run for office in this county you have to say you are a Christian Conservative because it polls well with the voters. Catalyst tells its puppet politicians to say this and go to a big church because it looks good around election time. Since most of Catalysts get elected then you cannot argue with success

  9. Boone Inc. | May 23, 2021 at 10:55 am |

    Rigged elections.
    It’s over. Wasting your time.

  10. Anon fairhoper | May 23, 2021 at 12:01 pm |

A ferry should be looked into. It may help the traffic situation. That and a moratorium on Burrell.

  11. steve cureton | May 24, 2021 at 9:34 am |

Some of the problems I have is why do we as taxpayers pay govt elected people 40,000 to 50,000 for only working 40 days in Montgomery. Why have we not dealt with prisons? Because taxpayers will give money for education not prison. Well, unless taxpayers wants to release alot of inmates money is needed. Being a Officer in prison is very dangerous with no help down the hall. Wardens dont care just want their money. Money must be hear marked for prisons. Why is people putting on the parole board friends of friends. Changes are needed. Roads is Baldwin County need to be address!!! We need Officials who will make the changes that are positive and good for our area.

    • Anonymous | May 24, 2021 at 1:21 pm |

You are living in a pipe dream. These local politicians from the council to the commission to the state legislators do not really care about Baldwin County.
They see lots of money to be made and se that the majority of the voters lean to the right and go to church. So the political cabal a.k.a. Catalyst or Elliott, Haygood & Stacy and now SBC vet out local people who will do the bidding of the cabal. Then the Cabal will fit them out with signs, political ads, get them to meets with the real estate developers, manipulate voting laws and, VIOLA! They win!
This is not just Scott Boone – hell, Scott is not that smart. It is people like Cox who pulls the strings. Then Cox’s politicians win, the developers get a free reign to do whatever they want.
Want to put in another 100 houses? No problem! Need a road four-laned? Just raise the citizens’ taxes! Need billions of dollars to get another bridge over Mobile Bay and the federal government won’t fit the whole bill? Just get Elliott to sneak in a toll.
This is how the cabal works. We MUST awaken the people to make them aware they are being treated like sheep. But the people are too busy working to pay for the higher cost of living in Baldwin County due to the excessive growth.

  12. Crystal B. | May 24, 2021 at 10:43 am |

Ripp you have not commented on the government admitting aliens being real. Do you and your attorney friend think they have visited Baldwin County?

    • Anonymous | May 24, 2021 at 10:53 pm |

Yes, supernatural beings from SATAN have inflicted the hearts of the elected politicians and they sold their souls to Catalyst and Cox. This explains UFO’s. They are beings from Hell that manifest themselves in today’s local politicians. God awaits their damnation and punishment

      • Anonymous | May 24, 2021 at 11:17 pm |

That doesn’t explain UFOs. Do you mean the satan things fly around? And if they came from Hell they wouldn’t need to fly here. 3 circles? Sounds suspiciously like crop circles.

  13. NEWfairhopers | May 24, 2021 at 12:34 pm |

Fairhope will soon need a new high school. Someone ask Burrell and Boone about that. I heard it’s going to be a new school for whites and an old one for the blacks and mexicans. If this happens it will cause a war with the lefties. I hope someone with sense prevents it from occuring.

    • Anonymous | May 24, 2021 at 1:22 pm |

Oh baloney! A segregated school wont happen. A private school will be built like St Michaels. See? These guys are smart – s smart that they are in office and we pay them their salaries – AND HEALTH INSURANCE!!!!!

      • Anonymous | May 24, 2021 at 6:52 pm |

I am going to run for office so I can get health care. I will use SBC/Catalyst if I have to so I will win.

        • Francis Paul Ripp | May 26, 2021 at 1:58 pm |

Jay Robinson did not even run for office, he got appointed by Burrell, for a cool 100,000 in benefits and salary. Jay replaced Robert Brown who lied to the whole town about his departure. This is what Fairhope has for a council.

  14. Mister Ripp it appears the election will be decertified due to massive proof of fraud revealed from the audits. Commemts?

    • Anonymous | May 24, 2021 at 10:40 pm |

The only things getting decertified are the voting machines. Next time you are at Best Buy, ask the geek squad if you would get hired not knowing the basics of a RAID array. They didn’t understand the concept and thought everything got deleted. Basic, basic, basic stuff if you want to get certified to repair computers.

    • “Section 20701 to require that documentation generated in connection with the voting and registration process be retained for twenty-two months if it pertained to an election that included a federal candidate.”

“Section 20701 provides for criminal misdemeanor penalties for any election officer who willfully fails to retain records covered by the statute.”

The ballots have been in possession of the people counting votes among many others. The audit is illegal.

    • The sub-contractor hired by CyberNinjas just quit. CyberNinjas are quoted saying they have no experience or knowledge of whats required to do the audit. That’s why they hired a sub-contractor.

I wonder if it was the sub-contractor or CyberNinjas who made the false claim of deleted databases due to the lack of understanding of RAID arrays (basic setup for redundant company backups).

But let’s be honest. None of this matters to people like you.

When it’s over, they will make some claim without evidence. They’ll take it to court. They will get denied because evidence is required for court. That’s the purpose of court. You’ll whine and carry on that the failure of the court to take on your non-case was political and they never gave them a chance.

How can our legal system function if anyone is allowed to file a case without putting forth any evidence?

The goal here has nothing to do with winning a court case.

The Democrats won the presidency but they lost the war whether you realize it or not.

The Republicans now control the state senates in 37 states. One of the sneaky things that have been put into the some of the new voting laws has shifted rules around to allow state senators to ultimately decide their delegates. Democracy be damned.

But, when this happens, you will enthusiastically do your part. Fueled by non events like this one and the ones before it.

So, why would the CyberNinjas sub-contractor head for the hills? I believe they came to understand that they will be one of the numerous sacrificial lambs when this is all said and done. They will be sued out of existence. It’s probably already too late.

      The earth is flat

  15. Fairhope has 51k people now. Thank you catalyst.

    • Cox and Friends | May 25, 2021 at 11:27 pm |

You are so welcome, 54 Chevy. We sold houses, shopping center lessens, and apartments. We made money and left the citizens with the bills for schools, roads, and sewers. You guys are easy chumps. All we have to do is be seen in church and you will buy our bull. You are easier yhsn a drunken high school junior girl on prom night

    • Spanish Fort Oracle | May 26, 2021 at 3:55 pm |

      Dear 54 Chevy,
Catalyst is not all to blame. The voters who could not see through the hypocrite politicians that were owned by Catalyst are to blame.
So many people have moved in here that have no ties to Baldwin County so they will vote for whoever they see on a road sign.
Heck, if Catalyst cannot vet a politician, they will import them. Just look at one of the county commissioners, Joe Davis, who came from Thomasville. They lured that person here with a bottle of booze and an elected office.
Remember he quit the resigned from Daphne City Council because he could not get his pet office building built to the east of Daphne High School?
Well, Catalyst sobered him up, ran him for the county, and viola! He won. All because the voters bought into the Christian conservative line…

  16. Jim from Tuscaloosa | May 26, 2021 at 7:02 pm |

I once has a candidate tell me the key to getting elected is to have the most signs. He is currently serving as Fairhope’s State Rep.

    • Yep. Guess who can mass produce those signs? Catalyst signs are all 4 by 4 signs on a PVC frame. Take two reinforcement spikes about three feet in length, hammer them four feet apart and a foot into the ground where two feet will be sticking up, and drop the PVC frame down on the spikes. Repeat these steps on roadways, any White-Spunner property that is listed to them, any real estate company property, and Catalyst member property until the landscape is dotted with 4X4 signs. Have a few thugs who do not “officially” work for Catalyst to go around and vandalize the opponents’ signs and soon you will see a wasteland of Catalyst-vetted political signs.

  17. Gay Robinson knows honest graft. Slick af.

  18. Mistah Ripp covid 19 was the best thing the Democrats ever came up with. Started in a lab in 🇨🇳.
All to get rid of orange man bad.

    • Anonymous | May 27, 2021 at 3:56 pm |

      Show me the proof.

Why would a Democratic president allow an investigation on their own scam?

Why would they be investigating the Wuhan lab?

Fauci, etc has never claimed it to be impossible. If they did, please post the source. And post the source proving it has been proven to have started in a lab.

Orange Man got rid of himself. SAD
