The latest attempt to get the plane off the ground was the Courier article about invoices and letters regarding computer work the City of Fairhope contracted. The sad thing about their persistent articles and commentary is that their limited, yet important audience, is getting a slanted view of reality while ignoring serious issues.

In the statement by Elias Technologies, they discuss the scope of work to be preformed, specifically.
Chucky is very clever with his quotation marks but one comment stands out. Much like Mr. browns statement, Chucky closed the statement by Elias by say: โNo evidence of mishandled information was ever identified.โ Who made that statement? It certainly was not Elias as their scope of work did not cover them making a determination if information was mishandled. Chucky who told you to add that sentence?
Chucky also gives the former mayor press coverage and allows him to weigh in on the non issue. This is quite telling as the former mayor is warming up to run for another elected office and anything he contributes to the subject, is self serving. The Ripp Report looks forward to the former mayor’s attempt to get re-elected to public office.
It is also quite telling that the invoices and letters are addressed to Deborah Smith, City of Fairhope. She has turned in her resignation to the city. It is suspected, by me, that she was giving documents to Jack and he is forwarding the information to Chucky. Why resign? Maybe she sees the writing on the wall and that this is all going to go to court and she decided to give her plane tickets back to Jack.

I am puzzled by 3 things:
How does the Ripp Report know that Burrell, etc are ‘under investigation’ and by whom are they being investigated? No other media and certainly not the City Council have ever admitted to this. Are they ‘under investigation’ by the Fairhope voters & the Ripp Report or is there a government entity with prosecutorial ability that is looking into this.
Why would one assume that Deborah Smith resigned b/c of fear of prosecution? I have never met her but I recently checked her Linked In profile and she is a CPA with a very distinguished resume. I think that Fairhope was fortunate to have her; my guess is that she resigned because she can go anywhere and get another job, and she was probably hurt and offended by the Mayor putting tracking software on her computer. Mrs. Smith is a professional and I doubt that she would leak any information to anyone. Again, I have never met her but why would she ‘leak’ anything?
The Elias Technologies invoice was sent to Ms. Smith for payment. Then apparently Mayor Wilson became upset b/c the invoices disclosed the billing details (as one would expect). For her own reasons, the Mayor did not want the details disclosed to the voters so she went back to Elias and persuaded them to ‘eat those costs’ which they have apparently agreed to do, but they also have come forward to state that they were performing only those services for which Mayor Wilson had requested. Then the Mayor claimed that Elias had exceeded their scope and that she demanded that they absorb those costs. How does the Ripp Report know that Deborah Wilson is lying that the the Mayor is telling the truth (the Ripp Report states that the Mayor is the one who saved the city these thousands of dollars in expenses.)
Don’t think that I wish that Wilson had not won and that we still had Kant in office. I supported her and voted for her, but the Ripp Report must admit that she has been a disaster. I know that Boone & Burrell are gunning for her, but she has made herself (and the rest of Fairhope) appear stupid and ridiculous. The Ripp Report’s mandate is to expose government corruption; you are harming the city by not covering Wilson’s own misdeeds. Perhaps if she could get her priorities in order, she could go to the Council and make some deals. She campaigned and won because of the Fly Creek Apartments. Arthur Corte stated in a meeting last week that it made no difference what the city or the citizens want; all that matters is where the ‘demand’ is. Why can’t she get behind her original plan and do something that benefits the City and not her unemployable friends? Where is the proof that anyone is under investigation by anyone? Does the Alabama State Ethics Commission maintain a list of active investigations because I have never seen any proof of any of this? To put it simply, just because we may not know anything yet does not mean that an investigation is not going on. These ‘under investigation’ allegations have been flying around for years. I have never seen anyone take them seriously (outside of the city limits). Political corruption is rampant everywhere on earth and Fairhope is certainly no exception. Not enough of the voters seem to care how twisted and greedy our elected leaders are. When someone files ethic complaint after ethic complaint, the ethic commission becomes deaf even if one may have some merit. When you scream fire every day and the firefighters come running and each time it there is no fire, then there is a real fire, the firefights keep eating their dinner. It is like when Sue tells the teacher, Paul hit me, Paul looked at me, Paul pulled my hair, well Sue, Paul was not at school today. Ohhhh. Well, I thought Paul did it. Two of the commissioners were senior circuit judges and they have heard it all before.
It is my understanding that council has the right to view anything within the government. If they ask for something they are allowed to view a document because they are responsible for all the financial matters within the city. My dealings with Ms. Smith has always been professional, she is one of the most professionals within the CPA industry. Her resigning is problematic, for her to resign tells all of us that something is wrong within the interworking of the city. From what I hear the ethics commission found no wrong doing and that came from an attorney I know in Montgomery. The people I have spoken with indicated that Ripp has asked others to investigate but those investigations are going nowhere. Anyone can file an ethics complaint but it doesn’t make it true. Anyone can call the FBI and tell them of wrongdoing but that doesn’t mean they are going to investigate, they do have an obligation to listen. All of the issues of the computers and tracking software is troubling, very troubling. The only good news about Ms. Smith’s resignation, she is not suing the mayor or city for wrongful discharge. All of this is so sad for the city, there are two companies that have told me directly they are not interested in doing business with Fairhope.
I have no doubt about the 2 companies not wanting to do business in Fairhope. No matter who you are pulling for or even trying to get everyone to work together. They all seem to purposely not want to get along or agree on anything.
There are more than 2, I have spoken to 4 different companies that stated they were not doing business with Fairhope because of the new administration actions. They don’t want to end up on some message board. One was seriously wanting to relocate to the airport but he felt if something happened then his company would end up being trashed. He was going to employee 20 new employees but relocated to another airport. It is a damn shame that we here in Fairhope are being laughed at because of computer issues. What many do not understand in this area of Alabama, most know each other and many are related. When you cross many of the old timers folks they take it real personally. The next election we need to find a mayoral candidate that has real executive experience, and has a positive message and does not companion on negatives. This all started during the campaign cycle. I wanted to change, just not this type of change. I truly believe that the council is trying to protect the city from more reputational harm. I am not sure who would want to work for this administration, the employees have to trust and if they think they are being taped, followed or whatever then the good people will not apply. The mayor did assault Pandora, that is factual. You can not touch someone when being animated. When you file an ethics complaint the ethics commission will assign you a case number, that has been done. Then the ethics commission will investigate the matter and inform complainant of their findings, no notice has been given. These investigations take time and research and the ethics commission will neither confirm or deny any investigation is going on, that is their policy. The Council knows the ethics commission is investigating the airport and is lying when they say” the ethics commission found the complaints “baseless”. That is a bald face lie.
As far as the Elias invoices, I called for several days and no one from Elias would return my calls.I believe the paper version of the invoices is questionable at best. My statement about the money saved was based on the adjusted invoices, if any wrongdoing occurred I would have to assume it would be Elias that would have the liability to complain, I hear nothing. Personally I have run many Small business and it looks like every day bs that any business or municipal government has to deal with daily.
As far as Debroah Smith goes, she has been more than happy to speak to the same coupon paper that is printing her invoices. Jack “come fly with me” also quoted Smith as saying their were issues with her resignation with the city, however they left out those issues in the paper and Jack just alluded to problems. Please read between the lines. One other thing those documents were leaked from city hall they did not come from foia requests.
