According to the US Census in 2010, Fairhope had 15,326 in population. And of the population, approximately 11,651 (74%) were old enough to vote. Now, using the US Census estimates for 2016, the city of Fairhope has an estimate of 19,421 population, and using the same percentages of voters (74%) this means there are a possible 14,372 voters. That means everyone over the age of 18 is registered to vote.
According to the Fairhope website, in 2016 there 15,777 registered voters and of that only 6,625 voted (41.99%). If you use the above percentages, how can there be that many registered voters in 2016?

I wonder how many absentee ballots there were, and who voted for whom? Are there people on the voting rolls that need to be purged and are there people of the voting rolls that do not homestead in Fairhope or are registered to vote in two cities? If this is their second home, then they are allowed to vote but they need to be homestead, tags, taxes, ectara, etc. You can vote in national elections because the federal government does care, but the state and cities do care!

So how is Fairhope going to stop the growth in Daphne? What everyone needs to understand this area is growing so they need to embrace it, plan for it and work with developers! Fairhope is not going to stop it because Daphne and other municipalities want the tax dollars. Daphne has the big-box retailers and the tax base to possibly start a city school system. Because of this tax base, Daphne can do more with less population. However, with more retail comes more population, if they build it they will come!
Fairhope will never be a Seaside, Seaside was built from the ground up, Fairhope has been here a while. Fairhope needs to take advantage of 181 being widened and plan for some retail out that way, Fairhope planning area is going to grow regardless of what others may want. There has been a Master Plan, an updated Master Plan, then updated again. The Master Plan is not worth the paper it has been written on if it is not followed.

Nor does it exclude them from having friends that do business with the city. If it did then there would be very few people that qualify for election as a council member. Queen Karin the First of Fairhope (QKFF) would have a conflict because anything the queen proposed to benefit the downtown could benefit her business. Actually, since the mayor is a full-time position there would be more of a conflict.
Individuals that are part-time are allowed to make a living and keep friends. The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled on this in the past.
As far as QKFF, well, the queen has arrived, so go about your business, she is here to save Fairhope, now go about your business, my supporters know I am great and without any conflicts, go about your business.

Indeed the city has a right to know what employees are doing on the job but you cannot target individuals, if it was installed on all computers then it is permissible. Even if it was installed on all computers it will come down to what the cityโs policy states. AND did they inform all the employees of the new policy.
IF it was targeted, the mayor needs to resign because she has violated the federal criminal code, and if any attorney-client privileged communication, especially if the city clerk was communication with the city attorney was breached, any medical information, ecterta, etc., then someone is in deep poop! If a council member was discussing an issue the city clerk then this is really going to sting.
Hereโs my prediction, the IT person that installed this program will cut a plea deal and then throw the mayor under the bus and the legal system will eat the mayor alive.
This is a case of altra vures, the insurance company will most likely not cover the mayorโs legal expenses. Sheโs done if this is true.
AND here is the kicker, any and all information obtain illegally will be ruled inadmissible in court, so her efforts may have cost her the job, and she could face criminal charges, and all the dirt she has uncovered will go back into the Pandora Box, all of it.
I have stated this before on here, she needed to have advisors that did not have a dog in this fight, was non-political and low key. I hate this for the city, the council, the mayor and more importantly, all of us that lives and works in this city โ Carpetbaggers too!

What happens if you emailed a council member, and as a citizen have a concern with the mayorโs strategic plan or other matters, and she is spying on those emails too. There would be nothing confidential within the city council, the council with the citizens, the council with the city attorney, among other issues. Why would anyone participate in city activities knowing that could be retaliated against.
The only person that can tell Jester to stand down is a much higher calling, no one else. First let me say I am not pleased with all Mayor Wilson has done since she has been in office. But all this mess is not just her fault it is everyone on the Council as well as the Mayor. We actually need to get rid of the new Mayor & current council members. Robert Brown could have actually reduced his letter to 1 page. In a nutshell: I do not like what the Mayor has done since in office so therefore I will NOT listen to anything she has to say & before she opens her mouth I will not agree with what comes out of it.
He said the ethics violations are baseless – it is not until it is over Robert Brown. Also, were these great employees going to Kant & stirring things up on the side?? It is obvious you do not know the things that have gone on for years in Fairhope. And by the way – Nix & Kant did not make Fairhope!! The citizens & business owners & those that own the property is who made downtown what it is. And believe you me – I grew up here & it is NOT what it was 50 & 60 years ago. It WAS a “special” small town then with MANY businesses (contrary to what Kant has said).!!!

I agree with much of what you’ve said. However, I feel that because the council has fought against the mayor every single day since she took office, I’m not sure I know what exactly you blame her for. And I don’t want to be argumentative, but what exactly has she done that you are you unhappy with? So far, but for the dissension between council and mayor it seems she has been working toward what most of the residents including me elected her for. If the council would stop throwing roadblocks in her way she’d have probably accomplished a lot more.
The letter Brown wrote is good, and seems to be the reality! Bullying and calling individuals outside the city limits “you people” is how you win friends and influence people.

What bothers me is the good ole boys are all bragging about Fairhope being the fastest growing city in the state like it’s a good thing. Our high school is overcrowding by the day and traffic is getting to where it really makes you have to plan when you drive. Mayor Kant used to always say he wanted to “keep fairhope fairhope” whatever that meant! He doubled the population while he was mayor! We have to stop people. Please stop the development. We have major infrastructure problems!!!
I agree that the growth is getting out of hand. The streets are clogged, the stores are sold out, and you cannot even get a doctor because they are so booked up. The county commission and the city councils keep letting these developers drop hundreds of houses in subdivisions that overwork the sewers, roads, schools, hospital, and crowd out services for those that live here.
But when real estate people pay your campaign, you let them do whatever. Then when our home is trashed, the developers move on to another place like the predators they are.
Fairhope is turning into DeKalb County, Georgia. We can not blame it ALL on the politicians but ourselves who elected them too.
The bickering that we see in the City Council meetings is just secondary to the fact that certain people want to make a buck and somebody is trying to stop them. The airport is a toxic site and must be closed down if it cannot pull its weight. You listening Burrell & Boone? No, you aren’t you are too busy trying to count the money that you are going to make through some back door…
Are you completely crazy or just half crazy? Are you saying that you do not want to see the demographics of Fairhope become more diverse? Do you want Fairhope to stay predominately white? Fairhope under Kant and Nix used Planning and zoning as a tool to keep blacks out of Fairhope. Fairhope developed a policy of not annexing any projects in their jurisdictional district. That was the president set in order to control who came into Fairhope, In Daphne a subdivision or commercial project outside city limits but in side jurisdictional district comes into the city limits as a condition for approval in P&Z. This policy accepts projects or applicants without prejudice and this also provides tax dollars for infrastructure. Fairhope ultimately screwed itself with their annexing policy and now faces a problem on how to annex. Do Not expect the council to do anything. In the 36532 area code 50% live in the city and 50% live outside city limits. Fairhope only exception was that they forced Wal-Mart by legislative action to come into city, for tax purposes, Fairhope lost about 6 million dollars by this not happening when wal- mart was approved.

I thank you, too, Mr. Ripp. It has to be tedious, showing up to all the Council meetings and listening to those blowhards chat among themselves like the best buddies they are (what’s with “the friend of a friend who can get rid of the goose problem”?). But just know there are countless numbers of us who appreciate what you’re doing on our behalf. You have more guts than all those council members and those in their pockets have together.

I watched last night’s Council Meeting and everything appeared normal. There may be animosity between the Mayor and Council but everyone behaved well; there did not appear to be any issues among the participants.
Do the Ripp Report Editors (or, more importantly, the commenters who claim factual information) actually have any facts about the ‘pipeline’, etc , FBI investigations or other misdeeds by anyone in Mayor Kant’s administration or is this just a ‘stir-the-pot’ hobby engaged in by people with absolutely nothing else to do? If someone has nothing to do, keep in mind that Fairhope has a Senior Citizens Clubhouse (Nix Center?)……go there and play cards.
Better idea…….find a Mayoral candidate to replace Wilson. Her ‘heart’ may be in the right place, but she is an idiot and is turning Fairhope into an object of pity. If the Council had done anything wrong, wouldn’t our esteemed mayor have done something (other than giggle) though the meeting? I spent 6 months believing that Burrell & Brown were bullying her (would say Boone but I think that he is always drunk at the meetings and it is difficult to get a bead on him); I now believe that, without Boone & Brown, Karin would have hired a lot more people less ‘brainy’ that she is (quite frightening, right?).
I challenge Pauli to look into the mayor’s disclosure forms, they don’t match when it comes to relationships. The ‘Foundations’ she has sat and her new hired friends. This council has protected Fairhope from her madness.

I agree. I know that Fairhope Single Tax Colony donated around $450,000 to build bathrooms because the City omitted them from its original budget….who was in charge? I would love to see the actual numbers.
I think the city also donated money. Single tax refused to be the contractor as well as the city. Ultimately the soccer club became the contractor. those funds should be accounted for and the contractors reviewed. Robert Brown is on the soccer committee ask him to agree to an audit. Beware of the Jester.The soccer fields required about 1 to 1.5 million in excavation and fill.The fill and excavation would have gone down dramatically if they simply drop the elevation on one end and grade to the other. The whole deal from purchase to the grade of land and the high price paid in the middle of a recession stinks. One to Two million was wasted on graft and poor planning.

Fairhope is beginning to be nationally recognized for its ‘poor planning’…..library, civic center, golf club, soccer fields, sewer system, retaining wall, developments that negatively affect Fly Creek, etc…..We are becoming quite the poster child for “Where to NEVER Move!”
I had hoped that Wilson might help clean this up, but we all know by now that she has been on the wrong track (she is clearly on the ego track).
I wish that her ‘much less than stellar’ hires would resign so that Karin could get a bead on what needs to be done and head in that direction. As long as she has these adoring (but clueless) high school buddies drawing large salaries from Fairhope, the Mayor will never gain respect and/or cooperation from the Council or the voters. I am one of many who are happy that Kant lost, but I am now wishing that we had elected Willie Bean this time! At least that sweet dog would have tried to do what was best for the City after we elected him! He had 10,000 times the charm of our current Mayor.
I also must add one more thing……Karin sat and smiled/chuckled/giggled throughout the entire work session and meeting Monday night just waiting for Paul Ripp to fight her fight for her.

And, remember, she missed the LAST meeting and sent in her white-shoe Counsel to the last Council meeting because she was hanging with Mayor DeBlasio (another much-hated Mayor) in South Florida.
I have much respect for The Ripp Report. Calling out government corruption is admirable and can be dangerous and it certainly does not pay well! However, at some point, The Ripp Report should call out Karin Wilson for hiring Botox and Maser at such inflated salaries for their meager talents. You should be fair to all……..if the Mayor had not hired these two, she would still have my respect and support. I don’t know if the Lakewood Club fraud allegations are true or not……however, I assume that RSA will not allow itself to be defrauded.
Bottom line…….The Ripp Report should report honestly on Botop, Karin and Maser…….don’t let your reputation go down the tubes (which will make the State and Federal Government ignore anything else you send to them ever). Sometimes it’s best to just say it’s over!
