If you live in Fairhope, BEWARE, your government is being hijacked by past employees that have been fired, quit or retired, since the election of Mayor Karin Wilson. Two employees sued the city with the help of the City Council and then sealed the cases so the general public never knew the truth behind their firings. It is the same damn crowd who have been crying in their milk ever since Fairhope had a “fair” election. They are supported by people that were loyal to Kant, including the Courier tabloid and the local AM station W.A.C.O.
The leader of this group is City Council President jack Burrell. Burrell chose not to run against Kant because Kant assured him he would step aside the next election, he has been pissed ever since. He began his crusade to terrorize the Mayor and obstruct city business, as soon as he was sworn in. His intention was to drive the duly elected Mayor out of office by bulling, harassment and obstruction. These are not allegations, they are factual and recorded on video tape. The Mayor’s response:

The City Council gave Burrell full rein to do as he wished and they ignored any allegations that were levied at them.
Last week’s “special” meeting was a prime example of yet another occasion to BUSHWHACK the Mayor. Mr. Burrell and the Council are very good at calling these meetings and being sure only the sour grape crowd be the ones invited.
The Police Chief made the decision to retire, not the Mayor. Sherry Sullivan, a fired disgruntled employee who sued the city and collected her bonus, orchestrated a dog and pony show that had everything but violins. Be sure to watch Mr. Burrell’s grandstanding around the 40 min mark.
The Chief retired after 36 years of service. The Chief had mentioned to many people, me included, that he probably would retire in a couple of years, this was around the time of the last election. Chief Pettis was recruited by the sour grape crowd to blame the Mayor for his retirement. The reasons given by the Chief, that he had been “bullied and intimidated” by the Mayor. Those X employees played the Chief like a fiddle for their own agenda. The Chief has recalled his original signed letter.
For the Chief to say he was “bullied and Intimidated” is the height of hypocrisy. For 18 month the council has been unrelenting with bulling, intimidating and obstructing the Mayor. After 36 years you would think the Chief of Police would have a little more bark on his ass then to let a “woman” pick on him, please.
The Chief is a damn good man and I am sorry that he was used this way for political purposes, but it was not the Mayor who used him. It was fired and retired employees, joined by employees who choose to follow Kant down the yellow brick road. Chief Pettis says he cannot work for the Mayor but could work for the Council, sorry Chief that is not your call, you do not pick your boss.
The Fairhope City Council has supported Mr Burrell in his effort to maintain control over the Fairhope Airport and secure it’s title in the name of the Airport Authority, not the city. The Council is now suggesting that the city budget be removed from the Mayor’s responsibility, against the law, to that of their hand picked financial committee. Here’s the icing on the cake, the Council now wants to take over the responsibility of the Police Dept. That is like putting the foxes in the hen house.
FAIRHOPE IS BEING HIJACKED
Mr. Burrell has a horrible record as a councilman and Council President. During his tenure the sewer infrastructure was ignored. Please do not forget the sweetheart deal Jack worked out for his friends, the same friends he was accepting free jet transportation from, while he served on the Airport Board. The soccer fields were a disaster and millions were wasted. He supported the developers of the Fly Creek Apartments by accepting as a gift, the wetlands and drainage from the development. Mr Burrell ran for office and never made public his police record. Maybe that is why he wants control of the police!
In an effort to silence any critics he used his position as an elected official to deny, yours truly, their Constitutional right to free speech. That case is now in a Federal Court. Guess what! the citizens of Fairhope are now paying for Jack’s Attorney fees, just as we did for his defense of the Airport.

First of all, way before the Mayor wrote the letter announcing Cheif Pettis’s retirement. Chief Pettis has already driven all the way to Montgomery and submitted his retirement papers. Second, Cheif Pettis made a fool of himself and all the black folks in the area as he was always treated like a damn cotton picker by The very asshole himself, Jack Burrell. The majority of the black folks and many of the white folks in Faihope are ashamed for Cheif Pettis not only looking like he was played and fooled, but also setting the racial error backwards. I noticed while watching that no one other than Karin haters were in attendance. The Council should really provide truthful advance billing for their shows. I don’t believe for a second that any of this was random.
I have never met Chief Petties and have no knowledge of any police business, but didn’t he submit the resignation letter? I don’t think that I am being wildly suspicious when I say that this Council has previously used Chief Petties as a tool to punish Mayor Wilson for winning. The saddest result is that our Police Chief has been publicly humiliated only to make the star of the show (guess who……Burrell) look adorable in his own eyes. He apparently visualizes himself as the perfect Southern gent, saving the poor man ‘of color’ from rape accusations from the white trash female liar.
If the Mayor should resign, then also the entire Council should resign. Let’s start over totally or not at all.

I don’t know Mayor Wilson personally and have only spoken to her randomly in the bookstore, etc. However, I voted for her and I believe in her vision for Fairhope. It is clear that she loves this city and is doing her best to protect it. If the Council had given her even 25% support, most of her mistakes would not have occurred; however, sour grapes prompted the hatred and jealousy that led to the coin-operated Council’s approval of the Fly Creek Apartments rather than allow Fairhope’s residents to finally put an end to that never-necessary and never-wanted project to pass.
One day, I believe, Jay Robinson and Jimmy Conyers will have their kids question their poor choices in these votes. Boone and Burrell only want to destroy the Mayor; if that destroys the City, they consider it collateral damage. I can’t figure out Robert Brown ‘for our hometown’…….he just lied during his campaign? I believed him and voted for him. I would love to know if he was sincere during the campaign and then later sold out for big money or if he was on Corte’s payroll from the beginning….he is perhaps the most puzzling of all b/c he truly appeared to be a good guy.

Sherry Sullivan contacted every fired employee and all of her friends in Fairhope to initiate a finely-orchestrated melodrama and used Chief Petties for their own gain. Chief Petties has told anyone who would listen that he planned to retire. And why not? Thirty-six years on the force, he’s ready, he deserves it.
But Ms. Sullivan and her band of miscontents saw a perfect opportunity to twist what Chief Petties planned to do and make it appear as though he was being pushed out – just as they’d been. Who knows why Petties went along with this charade? That is not for us to figure out. Perhaps he just wanted a big farewell.
In any case, for those of y’all who haven’t yet watched the production (and I suggest you do), it went off as planned. In fact it went off so well it’s possible they had a dress rehearsal prior to the show. Chief Petties was indeed a sad sight, reading from his prepared speech – and I do think it was actually prepared by him because it was really, really a rambling disjointed affair – proclaiming how the mean little ole Mayor bullied him (put this visual in your mind) to the point where he just couldn’t stay any longer. The tears were a nice effect as well and especially appealing to the base was Sherry and all the former employees, standing behind him in a choir, alternately holding hands, giving each other and him comfort and pats…it could only have been improved with a soundtrack.
And Petties’ wife, stepping in to finish what he was emotionally unable to complete, was also an extra-nice touch.
Then we come to the scene that Jack was waiting for. You could just tell the entire time the audience was singing Petties’ accolades that Jack was chomping at the bit to finally get to his part which I’m sure he’d rehearsed in his bathroom mirror all afternoon. And finally – it was his turn!!
“So, Chief Petties, if we can bend state law and make miracles happen so that you can report to the Council instead of the mean ole bully-Mayor, will you stay?”
“Yes, sir,” the humble servant replies, nodding and bowing to his master.
And now the coup de gras that will SURELY put the last nail in the Mayor’s coffin: Jack stands with Petties’ resignation letter in his hands, tears it up into little pieces and throws it out into the courtroom, I mean room, like so much confetti. And like the sheep that the rest of the Council are, they too follow suit and resignation confetti wafts through the room like the first light snow of the season.
I mean, it was stellar, and every actor truly did deserve an Oscar. Bravo!! Well done!
But…it’s not over yet! Because now, the Mayor must face the angry villagers before they lead her to the burning pyre that will hopefully snuff out her life as the mean ole bully she’s become. Imagine if you can, what that must have been like. A woman who has wanted nothing more than to do good things for Fairhope, seeing her friends and neighbors and the people of Fairhope who are such good, kind Christians, who are so easily led to become raging, hateful, mean-spirited, deluded lemmings by a well-crafted production. Because everybody knows she can’t really say a thing to defend herself. That’s the way the City operates. Hog-tied by liability issues if she dares to say what needs to be said.
Well done, Sherry Sullivan. You finally got what you’ve been wanting. Who knows, you might make a very good bad politician yourself. You’ve certainly got the black heart and a team of supporters for it.

Chief has sat in the back of council chambers for over a year and watched Jack-ass and many others “bully” the mayor and do absolutely nothing. And now he has the audacity to call her a bully after receiving an unfavorable review? I’m happy the mayor won’t settle for the status quo – if this was a man it wouldn’t have happened.
All this was orchistrated. Chief may have been considered a “nice” and “respectable” man before but he has lost all respect and credibility now. Now he will be remembered for this. It’s sad and disgracefull.

They like to divert attention by stirring up other things, sealing lawsuits quickly so their supporters won’t know the truth, enlist opposing the lawyers to participate- because if they don’t participate – they will be DONE in the county and city. No one is strong or brave enough or willing to lose their livelihood to take these crooks down.
If the truth is exposed by the client – they would face a lifetime of lawsuits because they can and they are cruel.

Well i did confirm Jack’s unconstitutional free speech denial rampage case IS going to federal court. I presume Burrell’s ego was the main reason. People likely don’t understand but if Ripp bribgs in con law experts it could go seven figures with the payout and legal and court costs. Who is the insurance company for the city? If I were them I would reign in Marcus and get a real attorney–or they are gonna get burned bad. There’s no way a jury sides with Burrell after his record is brought up in deposition and trial before the jurors.

You can definitely tell who the smart people are on this page, and who are the crazy uninformed ones. The smart people make intelligent comments based on the subject and the stupid ones call the other posters names while adding nothing worthwhile to the conversation. The latter just fills up this page with wah-wah-wah-wah that nobody wants to wade through to get to the comments with substance. I believe that Mr. Ripp should start deleting all comments that either don’t pertain to this particular blog or are nothing but name-calling rants against other posters. Children should be treated like children and when they can’t behave around the adults, send them to their rooms. Personally I’m all for reading opinions that don’t line up with mine but the useless drivel by some who apparently only post because they like mindless aggression toward others is tiring and frankly, doesn’t belong here.
Facebook is covered up with attacks on the Mayor. These people for the most part would never act the way they are or say the things they’re saying if they weren’t behind a computer screen. For the first time I am embarrassed to say I live in Fairhope. I wish those who do would stop and think how they are making us ALL appear. It’s embarrassing and though they may feel they’re speaking up for a poor, mistreated employee (Petties) what they are actually doing is making unsubstantiated vocal determinations based on only hearing one side of a story. I would imagine those very people when trying to teach their children well would always advise them against doing such a thing. And they they grow up and do it themselves.
The behavior of the vocal minority at the last Council meeting was disgraceful. The clapping and booing and outbursts from the audience was shameful and it was only made worse by the fact that Burrell allowed it to happen. This is obviously a man with two different books for what is allowed during an open meeting, and he is perfectly okay with using one for the people he agrees with and another for those he doesn’t. This is a man who has no business sitting on a City Council.
You are so right. I hope you’ll be there tonight. Regardless if one supports the Mayor we must support our town and insist on higher standard of ethics from our towns leaders. Fairhope is becoming a reality TV show and not in a good way.
I so hope that those of you who are disgusted by the charade put on by the council, sherry and the chief will attend the city council meeting tonight in support of Mayor Wilson. Our small town is at a turning point under Mayor Wilson. It’s up to us… the people of Fairhope to stand up, be seen, be counted and ultimately be heard that we will not stand for a council that lines it’s own pockets with deals bad for our town; we will not stand for a police chief (regardless of gender or race) who cries “bully” instead of charging the stand for what is right; we will not stand for men in power to bully an empowered woman like Mayor Wilson. Speaking of bullying did you hear Jesse Patterson went into the Mayors stored and threatened to return with 300 people chanting for her resignation… shouldn’t he just stay focused on his own legal battles of alleged embezzlement from the Organic School?
I hope to see you all there tonight. The Kant and council supporters are rallying their people and will be there. We don’t need to be loud or obnoxious (they have this covered), we just need to be there. I’m tired of the council and these former city employees making a mockery of our town. It’s time to get down to business and sweep out the dirt starting with the council.
I was shopping in the Page & Palette yesterday when someone I now know was Jessie Patterson came in. Evidently he had tried to see the Mayor but failing that decided to confront her husband who was working. He acted in a very aggressive and threatening manner to such a degree that an incident report had to be filed with the police department. I have since learned that this man has some type of mental condition for which he is being treated and apparently was “off his meds”. I recognize his name because he is the person who has had a long-term hard-on against Mayor Wilson and who started the petition to impeach her.
This behavior is what happens when normal people (i.e. Fairhope residents) get whipped into a feeding frenzy by other people like the formerly-fired employees and friends of friends of friends of Chief Petties.
If things continue to go in the same direction, there is no telling where this situation might end…but if it ends in violence, look to your neighbors for causing it.

What a fabulous production I saw the other night! Encore! Encore!
The most DISTURBING thing of all was what I witnessed following that special meeting, The biased newspaper boy, some City Councilmen and their wives, ExMayor Kant and his wife, Karla, and other ex Department Heads joined each other and were high fiving, fist bumping, drinking and celebrating and laughing about what had just been done to Mayor Wilson.
I felt so ashamed that these people were so disrespectful and cruel and in power over my sweet Fairhope. Shame on all of you! They should hang their heads in shame and step down.
I have been upset about this for days.
We should start a petition to impeach them.

I just sat there stunned watching this mean group of people, To think that people were gullible enough to vote for them. That people with this kind of mentality and value system are in control of Fairhope.

The Mayor does not need your opinion on hiring and firing nor your comment about losing 400 years of antiquated experience.
It is HER RIGHT as the elected Mayor of Fairhope to hire or fire department heads and staff.It is her right to give evaluations. I have never heard of an employee arguing with their superior over whether or not they like their evaluation. Joe got sucked up in the politics of this.
The majority voted and wanted her to serve as Mayor. You should respect their opinion. Those who voted her into office do not want her resignation. The council should respect her for the same reason. This should not be personal, this is business, In business you must work with people and show respect to people whether or not you like them.
In the beginning, she wanted and tried to keep the department heads. But when your employees undermine you and play games with you because they don’t want you as their Mayor, well then, she exercised her right and used the option to send them home. Like it or not. So don’t play innocent and traumatized with me. Those ex and disgruntled employees can go sell crazy in some other town, I’m not buying into this.
