The Fairhope City Council pounced on Mayor Wilson for exercising her rights and responsibilities as Mayor to hire and fire employees.

Alabama Supreme Court rules mayors have power to hire and fire municipal employees

In Alabama, mayors alone have the power to hire and fire municipal employees, according to a state Supreme Court ruling in a Birmingham-area case that apparently also resolves the key dispute underpinning long-standing mayor-council power struggles in Fairhope and Daphne.

The Council made it a point that they did not know the substance or details of the firing, however their reaction was swift. A special meeting was called. Kevin Boone chaired the meeting and again said they did not know the facts but council wanted a 60 day hiring freezeโ€” effective immediately. I guess the council finds it appropriate to discipline the Mayor for doing her job. Trouble with that theory is it hurts the community as a whole and does nothing for employee relations. Monday nightโ€™s meeting was canceled and the next regular council meeting was March 9th, so the special meeting was all about show and power.

The council is listening out of one ear and that ear is belongs to the losing party in the last election, the good ole boys. They are not listening to the constituents that voted for change and transparency. They are ignoring facts for fiction.

If you read the Mayorโ€™s timeline involving the Airport and watch the Youtube video by Dean Mosher,

and read the entire complaint involving the Airport and see no red flags, then you are not competent to serve as an elected official. I am not saying determining guilt. Thatโ€™s for authorities. I am saying, seeing enough wrong that the city council should not turn a blind eye to potential and alleged corruptionโ€” just because it involves their friends.

The firing of Sherry Sullivan and Jennifer Fidler was no surprise. The surprise is that it did not happen sooner. Sullivan and Fidler never accepted the election results and refused to accept change. Instead, they played political games that cost them their jobs. They were warned by family, friends and employees that they were working for a different administration and were risking their jobs by undermining the new Mayor. What I find interesting, is that we do not know the real reason for termination. Nor have we heard a word from Fidler or Sullivan. They want to blame someone, blame Jack for his lack of leadership. He led them down the wrong path, but they were willing.

The only way the City Council is going to hear out of the other ear is for more citizens attending and PARTICIPATING. That means telling the council your feelings. Mr Burrell wants you to think he is allowing you the privilege to speak. That is the problem. It is your right and Mr. Burrell has lost his moral compass and forgot who he is working for. I hope the council likes eggs, because if they continue to follow Jack, they are going to have egg on their faceโ€” compliments of Jack.

The next city council meeting is March 9th, work session at 4:30 and meeting at 6:00 PM.

The next town Hall meeting is March 7th at Quail Creek.

So is Dean Mosher acting as co-mayor?
When employees have been doing a superior job then why
does that call for them to be fired without any reason
other than mayor does not like them or that they sere
originally hired by prior mayor & she feels threaten by
    them?

Just when I thought the bs here couldn’t get any worse, Mr. Ripp once again proves that he is the biggest blowhard walking the streets of Fairhope. What is this guy smoking? I’m mean seriously? Hope he doesn’t get hit by a bus. Or does. Whatever.

  4. Mosher has a first amendment right to comment just as you do. We don’t know the reasons for the firing. Lets wait to know more before comments.

Don’t be a sheep! We all know that these firings were strictly political. And anybody that tells you differently is just flat out lying! The Ripp-Warner-Mosher agenda is being shoved down your throats and you’re either too stupid to see it or just don’t want to.

Anonymous Burrell supporters are the bravest! Kant fought for and was afforded the same rights that the council just undermined.

โ€œI feel good about the decision. The stateโ€™s top court agrees with what Iโ€™ve been saying all along,โ€ Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant said. โ€œThe mayorโ€™s responsibilities are the mayorโ€™s, under state law. They arenโ€™t the councilโ€™s responsibilities.โ€

There really are some stupid people in Fairhope that keep believing any of this manure that Ripp is shoveling. Just remember, you wanted change and now you’re going to get it. RippWarnerMosher are going to run Fairhope right into the crapper!

Marilyn Roberts, if you want to know who is acting as Co mayor look no further. That person is Jack. He has been trying to undermine the current mayor since she took office. He needs to step aside allow her to do the job she was voted in to do and stop interfering. People need to start seeing what he’s up to.

Actually, the three-headed monster (RippWarnerMosher) are the co-mayors. They all need to be banned from City Hall.

Sounds like you would have insight into which books we should be burning… Banning the public from government buildings is unconstitutional. You would be more comfortable in a non-democratic country.

Well, we are LUCKY to have Mayor Wilson and you all are just being babies because she has found the back door to your wallet that YOU ALL DIDNT WANT THE CITIZENS KNOWING YOU HAD and NOW YOUR AFRAID IT MIGHT DRY UP AND YOUR MONEY $$$ MIGHT BE GONE!! GOOD I HOPE IT IS!!! More POWER to Mayor WILSON!!!

  8. we all act like a bunch of little kids on the playground. lets get our act together and if we have done something wrong stand up and admit it and if not stand your ground. the new regime is entitled to put there people in the jobs she wants and nothing can be done about that. for the wonderful people that lost their jobs reminds me of a quote I remember from the book “university of hard knocks” that read “don’t wait to be thanked hurry on to avoid the kick” this is what the pair of wonderful women will have do and hold your heads high for the great job you have done for the city of fairhope and I pray to GOD that you will be rewarded in the future.

People keep asking time and time again, WHY did Mayor Wilson fire Sherry and Jennifer? What is still unanswered is why none of Sherry’s and Jennifer’s most ardent supporters have not asked THEM why they were fired and shared that with everyone who is so curious. Aren’t they the ones who were told why they were let go but apparently refuse to tell anyone else? I can assure you that Mayor Wilson would not have let either of them go without a reason, a reason that they were told. Perhaps they don’t want that information out there. I’ve seldom seen so many people think they know so much when in fact they know so little.

    • RIPP-REPORT | March 2, 2017 at 12:55 pm |

We have received calls from employees that have stated that employees of the city went to the Mayor and explained that Jennifer and Sherry were providing the former Mayor with reports dealing with city business as well as documents. This HAS NOT been confirmed, however they would not be fired without an expatiation.
So Sherry and Jennifer can clear this up by explaining why they were fired, they have remained silent????

    • Anonymous | March 2, 2017 at 2:36 pm |

I know for a fact why and Karin had no reason. At least not a legitimate one.

      • RIPP-REPORT | March 2, 2017 at 4:24 pm |

Anonymous no credibility, if she had no reason then why is Sherry and Jennifer so quiet?

  10. Anonymous | March 3, 2017 at 9:46 am |

Anonymous says: “I know for a fact why and Karin had no reason. At least not a legitimate one.” It needs to be said – AGAIN – Mayor Wilson does not need a reason. She and she alone is in charge of hiring and firing. The fact that she didn’t replace all the supervisors when she came into office is frankly more reasonable than what most new Mayors would have done. Why would anyone believe the statement “I know for a fact” by someone who won’t give their name? But even if it were true (which frankly, few people believe), that means nothing.

“We underestimated how long it takes to implement our plans. We knew that change would not be easy, but we underestimated how difficult it is to drive those changes in an entrenched bureaucracy. The tendency in city government is to do things the way we’ve always done them. We’re trying to change that status quo for the better, and we are making progress. I wish I could say we were farther along.” Mayor Sandy Stimpson – November 2, 2014
