YOU’RE NOT FROM HERE

One of Mr. Arthur Corti’s statements during his entitlement speech at the Feb. 1st Fairhope Planning meeting was people in the audience, “are not from here”. This reminds me of Senator Pittman’s explanation about receiving $636,000 in BP money, while he was the designated “trustee” of the money, “we do things different down here”. It is alright to take constituency money.

The meeting went exactly how I forecasted it would go, predetermined. The Planning and zoning board in Fairhope ignored the 300 plus people attending and anything they had to say. The one exception was Commissioner Hollie MacKellar who explained “my job is for the citizens of Fairhope, and I’m listening to them” she was the only NO vote. The entire board is selected by the Mayor and as anyone in attendance could see, controlled by the Mayor. Three hours of total BS topped off by Mr Corti himself explaining to the audience that they needed to thank him for Fairhope, he made it the way it is. His explanation of his importance and others only moving here to enjoy what he created was stimulating and gave a candid view of what entitlement means in Fairhope. He pointed out how he gave land for a fire station and the satellite courthouse and how lucky we were for his generosity. He is hoping people don’t see these as quid pro quo, as they are. He did not mention his failure to live up to his promises while building Publix strip center, however emphasis was put on his newest promises. Jennifer Fidler, a commissioner and head of Fairhope Public Works, sounded more like an employee of Mr Corti than the city; she overlooked the first phase violations and remains the Mayor’s puppet and votes as instructed.

Rock Creek, Montrose, Plantation Pines, The Woodlands and Parker road will have approximately 500 apartments, including both projects in Daphne and Fairhope, within 2 miles of each other, and a school zone in between on Highway 98. This WILL affect property values, quality of life and traffic, another 1000 plus cars. Fly Creek residents will watch property go downstream. Lawsuits will follow. The City is violating an agreement with citizens, reached in phase 1, property ownership, NOT apartments.

Now it goes to City Council for the final FIX on a good ole boy deal made in heaven. This is the line in the sand, if Fairhope citizens do not unite to fight this project, Fairhope as a community will suffer. The Mayor will try any dirty trick to prevent public participation just as he did with the triangle lawsuit, so people need to organize and overwhelm the Council meeting. We as a community are being overlooked for a few entitled property owners and good ole boys that do not live in Fairhope? Building apartments next to a strip center bordered by wetlands and an already damaged Fly Creek is not planning, and has nothing to do with a comprehensive plan, master plan or “village” plan.

IT IS A CORRUPT INSIDE DEAL BETWEEN THE LAND OWNER AND MAYOR. THE FIRESTATION AND SEWER LIFT PLANT WERE INSTALLED BY THE CITY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE APARTMENT PROJECT, OVER 1 MILLION TAX DOLLARS. CONNECTIVITY FROM PARKER ROAD TO ROCK CREEK AND ONTO HWY 13 IS NEXT, AS WELL AS CONNECTIVITY TO THE WOODLANDS. SUBDIVISIONS WILL BECOME SHORTCUTS.

DO YOU WANT FAIRHOPE OR FAUXHOPE, ALL WHO VOTE YES, MAYOR AND COUNCIL SHOULD BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE, OR WE WILL HAVE NOHOPE. ATTEND SO YOU KNOW WHO TO VOTE OUT.
