DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNDER YOU
A POWERFUL STATEMENT, IGNORED BY MOST
Many months ago a group of neighbors meet together to discuss a problem with a fellow neighbor, I was asked to attend and see if I could help. The problem was that one neighbor had secured a building permit to construct an outdoor cooker. Now this isn’t your regular BBQ grill but more a commercial cooker. The owner of the cooker also operates three eating establishments, Tamara’s, The Venue, and Pelican Patio, all in Fairhope. The Residence on Nichols Street is in the center of town. The problem is the amount of cooking and the thick dense smoke she puts out, it looks like a coal furnace. At first the neighbors tried to talk directly with the owner, she simply told them to f themselves.
My suggestion was to talk with the Mayor first then to the city council, police and health dept. They went to the Mayor as a group first; he ignored the situation as did the City Council. The police and health department said the needed to catch her transporting the food from house to consumer before they could do anything. This went on for months, the city turning a blind eye all along.
I volunteered to go and speak with her myself, thinking I could rationalize with her, WRONG, she promptly told me to f myself f the city and f the neighbors. I asked her how she could be so rude and obnoxious and own three restaurants? She said f me again and now that the neighbors complained that she was deliberately going to f with them.
Twice I went to the City Council, both times they sat and ignored the issue, the council is worthless they do whatever the Mayor says and it seems the Mayor and Smoker have a special relationship.
So what do you do in a situation like this where your own community government refuses to even address the issue? I contacted Councilman Burrell, as did the neighbors, well over a dozen times, all to no avail.
The health department got the same response as I did from the owner that was f you and the horse you rode up on.
So as a consumer and citizen I suggest we BOYCOT these restaurants and the f lady. If she will treat her neighbors and community like this why should we support her?
PS you won’t be missing anything.
