Darryl Patton Mountain Medicine
Today we are joined by Master Herbalist Darryl Patton and author of the much sought after “Mountain Medicine: The Herbal Remedies of Tommy Bass”. Darryl was Tommy’s apprentice and the book is a lot more than a book of potions, it is an anthropological treasure right up there with “Travels” by William Bartram, Bass having learned from an old Cherokee woman. So we talk magnolia bark (benzo-ish), buckeye (poison but used for circulatory issues), green briar (root beer) , cross vine (Amphetamine -ish), and other pharmacologically important plants native to Alabama. How to make your own yerba mate (Club Mate) from yaupon holly , the coming Tuesday Run-Off, and Ice Cream Shops I like in Bay Minette, Alabama are all on the table so grab some popcorn.
