LOWERY PUTS CAMPAIGN FIRST - IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT AND CITIZEN SAFETY SECOND

Contribution from CONCERNED BALDWIN COUNTY CITIZEN
To Sheriff Anthony Lowery and the Citizens of Baldwin County, Alabama: It has come to the attention of many in our community that validated reports are circulating suggesting that the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has quietly stepped back from active cooperation with federal immigration enforcement efforts and that this decision may be directly tied to the current election cycle.
This is deeply troubling.
We understand that politics is complicated. We understand that campaigns require strategy. What we do not understand and frankly will not accept is the idea that any elected official would deliberately scale back public safety enforcement to protect their own political standing. The badge does not belong to the sheriff. It belongs to the people of Baldwin County.
To Sheriff Lowery, we ask this directly and respectfully: Is it true that immigration enforcement cooperation has been reduced or suspended in Baldwin County? And if so, is that decision in any way connected to your campaign? The citizens of Baldwin County deserve a straight answer not campaign talking points, not deflection, and not silence. If these allegations are inaccurate, say so publicly and clearly. If there is a legitimate law enforcement reason for any change in policy, explain it openly and transparently. That is what accountability looks like. That is what the people of this county have every right to demand. What is most disheartening is not just the possibility that enforcement has slowed or stopped; it is the suggestion that votes may have been placed above the safety and security of the very community you swore to protect. That is a profound breach of public trust, and it demands an immediate and honest response. Baldwin County residents are watching. They are paying attention. And on May 19th, they will be voting. We call on Sheriff Lowery to step forward, face this issue directly, and put the people of Baldwin County first before the campaign, before the politics, and before himself.
