Letter to the Editor: Rob Holbert

Dear editor I am a supporter of Lagniappe, a reader seeking “a little bit more” news involving OUR communities. Trouble is little investigative reporting exists, or if it does it seems that it fits the media’s agenda. Your recent commentaries about Legal Schnauzer are somewhat confusing. One minute it appears you may be suffering from journalistic penis envy, next you say Legal Schnauzer “violates every rule of journalistic ethics.”

Baldwin County Legal Eagle and the Ripp Report, a nonprofit, see it a little different. The Media in Alabama is deplorable, as a result social media has given birth to facebook pages, web sites and of course e-mail. These sites represent the “court of public opinion”, people fed up with corruption, fed up with no media coverage on certain issues that affect the status quo.

I read your article about Kim Hastie, after she was found not guilty of all charges. You still called into question her ethics; how she ran her departments and the lies she told lagniappe. I appreciate your concern about ethics and political corruption.

As far as the schnauzer getting the first bite on the story of OUR good Christian governor and his “alleged” affair, who else is saying anything? The Governor’s political advisor is silent, oh yea she’s involved! The Attorney General is silent, the speaker of the house faces 23 felony counts, the Governor has said his divorce should not be a distraction; he did not address an alleged affair.

BCLE and the Ripp Report will be expanding our social media footprint in coming months. Lagniappe boasts of a circulation of 25 thousand and 80 thousand readers that is once a week, social media in Alabama, especially Baldwin County, has an equal if not greater readership. Why? Well we can address issues that do not affect our bottom line, advertising dollars. WE are not afraid of the status quo and are not compromised with a payroll.

What are your, Lagniappe’s journalistic ethics? One question is repeated constantly on BCLE and the Ripp Report, legal Schnauzer, Al Reporter, Left in Alabama and others, “where’s the Media.”

The Ripp Report and BCLE have provided you with documents and stories that you choose not to write about. The BP grant fraud involving Mayor Kant and Senator Pitman; however you have printed stories of others brought to justice for far less. What about the FIXING of an ELECTION by the Baldwin County Republicans. What about the family court mess involving innocent children? How about Judge Brackin, and the three DUI’s, you been sitting on that for a year. I have told your reporters they do not have to give us any credit, just tell the truth. What about Fairhope’s settlement of the triangle lawsuit where the city council and mayor CONSPIRED to keep the public ignorant while fleecing them? Hell I can list 50 more. Think these are not worthy of news? Then check out what the court of public opinion on social media thinks.

Lagniappe is very important, we hope you are successful. Do not allow your hat size, ego or self proclaimed ethics interfere with tough stories on political corruption or challenging the status quo.

Francis Paul Ripp
