TOP PRIORITY —-LAWSUITS—PARKS—OR—EDUCATION?
Since the failed, March 31 referendum vote on property tax, the Politicians and the Baldwin County School System has been trying to figure a way to finance the exploding school system.
The voters rejected any new tax increase by approximately 70%, while the Fairhope City Council, Jack Burrell, Council President was quoted as saying “it must be necessary”. This is a perfect example of the disconnect between our elected officials and taxpayers.
The city of Fairhope also settled a lawsuit for 12 MILLION dollars, while trying to convince the general public that it was a purchase of Future Park. Diana Brewer, a council person said “it was the most important thing the council had done”. This was a slight of hand trick by our Mayor who orchestrated a council meeting that omitted any citizen participation or comments, it was the most unethical underhanded action taken by any Fairhope council in the last 20 years.
Fairhope is now building another Park, without cutting a single blade of grass on that 12 Million dollar park, the new park is a soccer fields for 5 Million dollars, on an unsuitable piece of land.
Fairhope has donated $350 thousand dollars to education for the last 2 years. The Mayor likes to use the term “in kind services” that the city provides as well as the cash. He claims the “in kind services” boosts Fairhope’s contribution to 2.5 Million. This is total BS, the “in kind services” he is speaking of are our “city services” that we the taxpayer pay for and has always been provided. His new terminology is his way of inflating the city’s contribution, which in the long run supports his argument that the city is already paying too much related to education. Remember rule number one, if the Mayor’s lips are moving he’s lying and the bobble head council goes along.
Fairhope is paying 17 Million in Lawsuits and parks, while they pay 350 thousand dollars for education, in a city of approximately 10,000 voters. That breaks down to 17,000 Dollars, per voter for parks and $21.88 per voter for education.
Welcome to Fauxhope, nothing is what it seems our Politician’s are playing us like a fiddle. Education is not a top priority, until it is, nothing will change and the taxpayer is not going to self tax itself while our elected officials BS us.
