Fairhope City Council has lost it’s moral compass. The Council recognizes wrong for right, they have created a new norm that defies logic. The Council along with the Police Chief, used their elected positions to attack the Mayor in a special meeting.
The Police Chief was on duty the night of the ambush “special” meeting. He nor Mr Burrell controlled the crowd, quite the opposite they instigated and encouraged the crowd to be unruly.
This is the latest orchestrated stunt by the City Council President, Jack Burrell, and disgruntled former employees of the city. These employees have been fired, quit their positions or retired. The Police Chief lined up with these performers against the Mayor in a Public Meeting choreographed to embarrass the Mayor. Fortunately for the City of Fairhope these poor excuses of former employees have all been replaced by far superior employees.
Mr Burrell has turned the City of Fairhope into a shining example of what happens when you lose your moral compass.
How does Mr Burrell have any credibility? He has no moral compass, in fact his closet is full of examples of an elected official drunk on power and booze.
Consider just a “few” of the incidents Mr Burrell has been involved with. The Fairhope Airport and the bid he help secure for another Board member and the Fairhope Municipal Judge. Mr Burrell was accepting free plane transportation from the same bidders, prior to awarding them the Bid.

It’s hard to say what the public participation part of tonight’s council meeting will be like. Will it be a re-run of last Monday’s scripted production? Will Jack Burrell allow residents to speak as long as they want to and the audience to respond as ill-behaved brats, booing or clapping without interference from the Council President who has certainly interfered at other meetings when speakers said things he didn’t approve of (or threaten them with handcuffs and jail if they uttered a word, depending entirely on who it was)? Almost certainly one person will want to speak: Jessie Patterson, on whom a police report was filed yesterday because of threatening behavior toward the Mayor’s family. It’s a fair guess he will be given time to say whatever he pleases, and more time if he wishes. I expect tonight will be yet another embarrassment for Fairhope residents at the hands of the council.
I support the Mayor and if anyone is removed from office it should be Jack Burrell. Speak up if you feel the same way and if you can’t or won’t publicly (and who could blame you if not when surrounded by some of the crazy people we apparently now have in our city) at least show support for those who are willing to publicly support her.
I just returned home from the meeting. I have not attended one lately, preferring to watch online, and I was amazed at the complete rudeness and lack of any respect from primarily really old women. They were talking out loud and making lewd comments constantly, making it difficult for some of us to hear the comments of those recognized by the Council to speak. I have never seen people act this way……..Walmart shopper cartoons on steroids! When people make fun of Alabama, I now will know that they probably have met these characters! I noticed that at least one of them was sitting where the camera would catch her during most of the meeting!
Jessie Patterson appeared to lose the wind beneath his wings when he realized that most of the attendees supported Mayor Wilson. He actually seemed fairly harmless. Mr. Cooper was great and I love the suggestion given by a gentleman whose name I don’t recall that Jack Burrell cede the Presidency of the Council to Jay Robinson. This was the best suggestion I have heard this year……..please pass that one around and encourage all to support it. There is little trust from ALL SIDES, but is still a need for a cease fire and give it another shot. When one of the residents stated she had some issues with “our newspaper”. That was a laugh-out-loud moment as everyone knows Gulf Coast Media can’t even generously be called a newspaper. (P.S. Cliff McCollum, resident liaison between the council and broadcast news, was there as well and looks in person about what you would expect a person who writes crap to look like. No wonder that guy can’t get a date.)
Jack Burrell’s insistence that he knew nothing about last week’s circus of a council meeting, despite the fact a gentleman had texts to prove he did.
Likewise, Jack’s declaration that he’s never had anyone removed from a council meeting, when everyone knows the RECORDED threats he made against Mr. Ripp. Jack may as well said to the entire audience: “Who are you going to believe – me or your lying eyes?”
Mayor Wilson’s husband, who apparently had finally had enough after being threatened by Jessie Patterson the previous day and then listening to the council deny they had any knowledge of Sherry’s theatrical production. Anyone who knows Mr. Wilson from their downtown businesses knows that he is a polite, calm and thoroughly likable person but if looks could kill, Jack would have stroked out and keeled over behind his microphone.

Agree with all. I think that the best suggestion was that Burrell cede the Presidency of the Council to Robinson, probably the most genial of the members (but also an attorney). After 6 years, this should be a no brainer. I did notice that only the ever tipsy Kevin Boone declined. This would be the best thing for the City; clearly Black Jack will never give up power so we need to find a way to make our other council members man up. Interesting that last night no one other than Boone objected to BJ following the rules. Perhaps we need to petition the Council to give them the goods to do the right thing. Last night was amazing b/c, even though Black Jack was ‘balls against the wall’, the rest of them appeared ashamed. What has BJ caught them doing?

The problem with waiting to “vote them out” is that they will do a lot of damage in another 2-12 years. I agree with Georgia that moving Burrell out of the lead chair and having another council person sit there is a good start, and that could and should happen immediately. But I’m not sure Burrell’s little soldiers are willing to stand up to him enough to make that happen. It’s a small step toward change, but perhaps a good one.

All anyone has to do is watch the City Council meetings since Wilson was elected Mayor and each and every man on the City Council has shown signs of Bipolar behavior, delusion and any JURY of any Court would find them all guilty of Harrasment towards Mayor Wilson. So sad. Fairhope back in 2000 was a really nice place. Moved away in 2001 after two years there with my family. We moved back in 2012 after a decade in D.C. The things I’ve seen in the past six years have broken my heart. The Fairhope government is self-serving. The city council is feathering their nests and it is easy to see. Robert Brown “your hometown” is the worst. Gets a half million dollar contract? WTF? Why is everyone so dumb in Fairhope now? Why is this allowed?
Because some of the folks on the council are in it only for themselves. They don’t care about the town. They just care about how much they can materially gain.

He said at the meeting the other night that he was driving to Huntsville right after the meeting. He said his employer is”Integration Innovation, Inc” and it is listed on his statement of economic interests filed with the Secretary of State. Got this online.

It would give the Mayor a voice (and a vote) among the men on the council and would take away much of the animosity that has been heaped upon her (for no good reason) because the City Manager would then be responsible. Naturally, the council would absolutely HATE the idea, which is an added bonus. From the little I understand, each council person would also be responsible for a particular district, not at-large like we have now. Now, finding somebody qualified who would want such a crappy job might be the real challenge, but who knows, people still go to work for Trump so maybe not. I would also like to see term limits included in such a vote, which is something else the Mayor discussed she wanted during her campaign. I honestly don’t see a downside to any of this and I hope residents give this consideration.
