The Airport Authority has a great idea! They are going to use your tax dollars to hire “ the top ethics attorney in Alabama” to investigate me and The Ripp Report, and attempt to “head off” any investigation with the Attorney General’s office and the Ethics Commission. Your tax dollars are going to pay for the defense of the authority board members, Jack Burrell and Ray Hix, who are the focus of the complaint. Mr. Burrell is an elected official as well as a board member making him far more responsible for his actions. This will be an end run around the investigation and an attempt through judicial means to quash accountability by using attorneys to talk with attorneys who will confer with more attorneys, they are all getting paid, and come up with a very clever explanation, written by another attorney.

Right now you should be thinking WTF, but wait there is more. The “top ethics attorney of Alabama is Ray Hix’s Attorney who prepared the lease in question and was paid by Mr. Hix to prepare a request of the Ethics Commission for an Advisory Opinion. The Ripp Report is still requesting a copy of that letter for our “investigation”. The Authority is hiring Mr. Hix attorney to represent the authority while Mr. Hix holds the position of Sec. Treasurer for the Authority, to investigate a legitimate complaint already in the hands of authorities.

Now your head should be really spinning but just keep turning that crank because here comes Jack in the box. A Fairhope resident who inquired with the Ethics Commission Chief Council, Mr. Hugh Evens, sought information relative to the Fairhope Airport Authority. At the time I had no knowledge of the request and the Fairhope resident had every expectation of confidentially. Mr. Evens blind copied Mr. Bailey, Mr. Hix’s attorney. Hey Hey Jack in the box, attorney talking with attorney who is. to be paid by an attorney. Ethics what the hell is that? It is not in the box with Jack.

Keep turning that crank because here comes Jack. While all the above is going on and many more questions, than answers about the Airport Authority, Mr. Burrell is deflecting his responsibility and saying it’s the Mayor’s fault. B.S. what the Mayor did was inherent a nightmare by being elected, if Mayor Kant was still around you would have never heard a word. It was the Mayor who refused to take two salaries from the city, that cost Mayor Wilson 90,000 dollars, that my friends is what you call ETHICS.

The local print media has been given a copy of the complaint as it was submitted. Why are they not all over this story? Can they not find Jack in the box? Maybe that is him we hear flying?

Someone please put Jack back in the box.
Before it’s too late.

  1. There are no top ethics attorneys in Alabama.

    What a load of crap.
    Our taxes wasted!

Jack should get out now before authorities begin looking at him. Once an investigation starts…

  3. POP goes the WEASEL

  4. Clever way to get the taxpayers to fund their defense attorney under the guise of Airport business. Absolute incompetence at best, criminal good old boy deal more likely. We will clean this mess up at the next election, if the US Attorney’s Office doesn’t do it first. Unacceptable. We voted Wilson in as mayor, not Jack Burrell. The tail trying to wag the dog needs to be stopped.

  5. I believed that Jack Burrell was a good guy because he was the only City Council member to vote against the Fly Creek Apartments. Then I later read that he only voted down the apartments b/c he lived in the adjacent neighborhood. I continued to believe that he cared about the best for the city of Fairhope and that he was in support of our new Mayor.
Never have I been so disappointed. With Jack’s political instincts and Karin’s will to clean up Fairhope’s sleaze, they could have done great things together. However, his condescending comments and attitude toward the elected Mayor have exposed him for just another smooth talking good ole boy creep. I hate it for Fairhope and I hope that we don’t let him get away with anything else.

  6. Has anyone else wondered what Jack’s wife’s rich banking banking friends gain from his association with the airport? Look at his bio on Fairhope’s website. He was a “big fish” in a small town in high school, and used to being the center of attention. I don’t know any professional who lists his high school athletics history as part of what qualifies him/her for a position within town government. He reminds me of that egocentric character, ‘Baby Brent’ from the kids’ movie “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”.

Tired of people commenting about everyone getting along. I’m happy a mayor is in place who is up to the challenge of cleaning house. Can’t be easy and she needs our support. Long overdo.

  8. Rotten. Jack won’t win dog catcher in Fairhope anymore. He is from Mississippi.

Thank you to Paul Ripp and the others who are taking time out of their lives to do all this for the citizens of Fairhope so we know … “the rest of the story.”

  10. It’s a sad day for Alabama citizens when they have to do the investigating and not the Ethics Commision!

  11. Correct me if I’m wrong. The airport authority’s own secretary won a bid based on airplanes, most of which he doesn’t even own, and includes those airplanes in his city fuel use to fluff (falsify) his bid?! He owes the city that full tax amount, I hope it is being collected. This member is not only still on the committee and constructing his building, taxpayers are paying his personal lawyer to defend them all? Am I reading this right? And the airport authority members who awarded the bid to their committee comember are playing the victim. Meanwhile, the city is struggling to pay off millions in debt on airport property that is controlled by… these same guys?

Where is the media? Al.com is a friggin joke. Lagniappe??

  13. Rock Creek Soccer Mama | February 11, 2017 at 3:07 pm |

Jack smooth talking? Think again. He’s about as smooth as ex-lax.

  14. The mayor needs to replace Burrell and the other authority members. These guys are no good.

  15. I heard it through the PIPELINE
    These WEASELS are going down!

  16. This is absurd!! Sleeze bags

  17. We need to do more than just comment on these posts (thank you to the RIPP REPORT for always keeping us informed). Fairhope residents are needed at the City Council meetings. And not the same 8 – 10 residents who attend every meeting. Fairhope needs a regular appearance of our voting residents to show our position; to show our anger and disgust at Burrell and his utter defiance of ever being wrong or unethical; to show our support for our town and yes to show support for our Mayor. Please meet me at the next City Council meeting. Let’s be heard together. Tomorrow the 13th at 6pm.

  18. Time to get involved folks. Maybe a JD Crowe lampooning of the Airport Authority?

    Btw nice job Ripp

  19. Clayton Phelps-Fairhope | February 12, 2017 at 8:46 am |

Most folks don’t know that fairhope taxes pay the interest on the loan for the airport authority’s authority. The mayor can and should shut this illegal operation down. No one is locating in fairhope for big business. Wake up!

  20. Wouldn’t this all be solved if the people involved were just honest and answered the simple questions?
The way everyone is acting seems pretty guilty to me!!!!

  21. Fairhope has some ignorant rednecks.

  22. Who appoints the board and for how long?

  23. My wife and I will be at the meeting tomorrow evening. Great job in raising awareness, but as you can see from a few of these comments there needs to be a little more structure and clarity regarding what exactly is the dishonesty that is taking place within the airport Authority, besides them trying to use our tax dollars to save their ass and hang yours out to dry.

  24. ray hix is a pretty good guy – doesnt seem the type to pull something really shady.

I doubt that as many of my tax dollars will be spent on this as will be spent investigating, litigating and compensating the current and former employees that have filed suit against Mayor Wilson.
