Alabama is known to be last in almost every category. Be it obesity, drugs, education, prisons and much more. Alabama has no lottery and is not even considering the millions, maybe billions, in revenue from decriminalization of marijuana. I am sure Alabama will be last in that category.
Alabama is first in political corruption.
Now we will be first to install a toll on I-10.
The only toll.
If our political leaders have it their way, Alabama will be known as the toll bridge state.
Interstate 10 (or I-10) is a long Interstate Highway which the west side ends at Santa Monica, California (near Los Angeles), and the other side ends at Jacksonville, Florida. The route is 2,460.34 miles (3,959.53 km) long and travels through 8 states.
2,460.34 miles of federal highway and the ONLY toll will be in Alabama.
We need a special car tag so the rest of the country will give us the due “credit” we deserve.
Mike Lee of logistics firm Page & Jones, former president of the Build the Bridge coalition, said the area has a “generational opportunity” to pursue federal funding this year, with Congress considering infrastructure proposals and Sen. Richard Shelby as vice chair of the appropriations committee until his retirement next year.
Mark Colson, president and CEO with the Alabama Trucking Association
“reiterated that the trucking industry believes the plan is unconstitutional because it singles out truckers to finance an interstate project. A federal lawsuit in Rhode Island argues that truck-only tolls discriminate against out-of-state companies, violating the Commerce Clause of the Constitution.”
Many citizens feel that development is pushing for the bridge and traffic issues are an easy way to distract the public.
However you feel, the realization is that a federal Government Infrastructure Bill has been whittled down by Republicans. It is already to late for the Bridge proposal, by Republicans, to be considered in the current bill.
Another point is that Alabama Republicans have for the last 6 months been disparaging the current administration.
How does that work?
You have your hand out for federal money while you are peeing on their leg?
During the MPO meeting 6 out of the 8 speakers said that Federal money is needed. This has been a subject of conversation for months.
This project is not even to first base and lacks leadership. Now all of the sudden the sponsors, MPO’s, have come to the conclusion that they need Federal money and a toll, the exact opposite of their previous positions.
Oh! by the way it has now been decided that the truck only bridge will allow cars for a toll.
There is hope. Jack Burrell, Eastern Shore MPO Chairman, aka Pied Piper, will be going to Washington playing his pipe for the trucking industry.
Let’s hope Jack does not take Senator Tommy Tubberville or Rep. Mo Brooks with him.
In Washington doors close if you are from Alabama, they do not open, thanks to our political leaders.
The Democrats are just as guilty as the Republicans for stalling the bill. This administration needs all the disparaging that the Republicans are dishing out, that’s all they have done since 2016.
You cannot tax or toll a federal interstate. Alabama this is a bad look!! Figures that Burrell is all for it. Loser he is.
You can’t Alabama!
Request that Kamala Harris travel to Mobile and solve the problem.
Burrell and the senator are against taxes.
But for tolls.
Jack “Toolbooth Willie” Burrell.
Burrell has zero say.
Make the plates:
“Alabama: The Toll Booth State”
Mister Ripp the tunnel is crumbling at the entrance headed into mobile. Look next time you go. Its falling apart. Maybe they should build Mister Burrells toll booth on that spot when they fix it to save taxpayer funding? What do yiu think Sir?
I think making truckers pay a toll will only raise the prices of goods the consumers buy. I feel if we need a toll let the out of state people who come through our I-10 pay it. Not the taxpayers of Baldwin, Mobile County, and the citizens of Alabama. We need to lower the grocery tax in Alabama (easy fix), need to put career correction people on the parole board not friends, need to replace all the leaders over the prison system, need to educated the inmates in prison so they can make it in the free world, need to not charge military workers State tax when going to training in other states on their checks. Other states don’t charge them. Need to have term limits for people. Need to let the taxpayers of Alabama vote on a lottery and gambling not Montgomery. I am not for it but that would be fair. What I am trying to say WE NEED TO CARE ABOUT EACH!!!!!! We all have issues… I want to make Alabama the BEST IT CAN BE.
I remember that one time the old Causeway once had a toll. The state promised that when the bonds were paid off, the toll would go away. Back then they kept their promise.
Back in the 1970’s and 1980’s the Wallace Tunnels were power washed almost every night and kept clean and pristine. Now, they are dirty because the tunnels are not being cleaned as often. Why not? The state will tell you to save money. The state will hire a six figure bureaucrat and then take the money from cleaning to pay his or her expense. What a shame.
If the I10 bridge gets a toll on it, then all the commuters who moved over here and did not pay attention to the politics deserve to pay the toll everyday. They let the Catalyst-owned developer-politicians get into office and do this to Baldwin County.
People in Baldwin County are a buch of people just waiting to be governed and taxed. Baldwin County has become a honey pot for the rest of the state.
“Tax the heck out of Baldwin County and spread it around the state.”
I don’t have to drive to Mobile because I head east to Pensacola.
HA HA HA HA Take that you stupid voters!!!!!
Hey I resemble that remark! I moved here from Mobile to get out of traffic and crowdedness. I bought a house in Dunmore and I wish I was back in Mobile. Baldwin County is so overrated. I am moving to Dawes and Belaton can kiss my bum
Cox is going to hell
Where will the toll money be spent?
Roads or schools?
Neither. The toll money will go to hire more administrators who are supporters of the politicians who vote for the bill
I attended BOTH “Mobile Bay Bridge” meetings!
Bla . . . Bla . . . Bla. . . Disfunction Junction.
Everything is Political!
“OUCWG” – Old,Ugly, Crazy, White Guy . . . but I ain’t stupid. Don’t pee on my leg and try to convince me “It’s raining.”
So what are you going to do about it? I say we need to tell the road people that EITHER YOU OR YOUR SUCCESSORS WILL FIND A WAY TO BUILD A BRIDGE WITHOUT TOLLS.
If they cannot then we need to find people who will and have the Legislature replace them or we will replace the Legislature as well.
But the people in Baldwin are too busy working overtime paying for their overpriced houses built by the future ghetto builders. Yes, DR Horton, Truland, and Bellaton, this means YOU. You all might own every politician here but you don’t own all of us!
I taste a little bitterness when you address these developers
What will the developers do when the toll adds to the cost of living in Baldwin and commuting to Mobile? The developers make sure no impact fees are charged when they throw up their balsa wood houses, overcharge for them, and give the subdivision a corny name, so I am sure that they will do something to mitigate the tolls.
Worried about schools being overrun. Tolls are lame. Ww need new elected officials.
Cox will call Burrell and give him his marching orders
Burrell will make some money under the table when they sell the drainage basin beside Winn Dixie and everybody will be happy
Trump won big. Cheating is un 🇺🇸
My inside source at the pillow factory told me Trump will be reinstated in August after exposing to the world all the super real evidence. In August. It’s too early now.
I just got a notification from my source. Make that 6 months. August is too early for their super real evidence.
I watch Fox News, Newsmax, MSNBC, and CNN at the same time all day. I’m 10 times more outraged than you are.
Mister Ripp I heard The Jester made a cool 2 million in new personal wealth from being a fairhope city councilman and getting city contracts. How does this get past the ethics Commission?
They just turn a blind eye, Ethics Commission in Alabama protects politicians against litigation.
The Ethics Commission in Alabama watches ethics like a prostitute watches her virginity
Honest graft. Imagine how much burrell has stolen.
