Thanks a million! TOTAL VOTES: 1,075,856 We made some changes to the Nappie Awards this year and, quite honestly, we wondered if it would curb your enthusiasm. We cut 32 categories and limited voting to once per day, instead of once per hour or unlimited voting as it had been in years past.  But after …

Mayor Wilson ran for office with the promise to fix the sewer and utility infrastructure. Fairhope and the Eastern Shore have a sewer problem that was developed over many years of neglect of previous administrations. The Fairhope City Council has hindered the infrastructure projects by simple obstruction and procrastination.

Please read the Mayor’s comments after the article below. Mayor Wilson is doing what she promised and the public needs to know that she is the FIRST Mayor in Fairhope to address the situation.

Contact your City Councilman and tell them to stop playing politics with crap in the bay, do their job.

It is embarrassing to be rated as a dirty beach but maybe it will wake up the Eastern Shore because one community cannot fix the problem.

FACT :Mayor Karin Wilson of Fairhope, Alabama

July 23 2019

This is not something I want to post but it’s important to put things in perspective.

The City of Fairhope is my hometown and the health of Mobile Bay has been a priority since I took office and will be until my last.

We have identified and started an aggressive rehabilitation plan for our wastewater collection, transmission and treatment system, and we have the most stringent storm water quality requirements of any in Coastal Alabama.

However, one of our concerns as a municipality is that water quality in the bay can’t be controlled or affected by the act of just one city. The water quality of Mobile Bay is not only a joint effort between the western and eastern sides of the bay but also all our neighbors upstream.

The Mobile Bay Watershed is the second largest in the Country, with nearly 2/3 of Alabama draining into our bay!

Failing septic systems, which are used by 1 in 4 Americans, are a serious source of water pollution with a 5-35% failure rate. Every failing septic system or any illicit discharge in this watershed affects the water quality in Mobile
Bay.

Flushing “disposable” wipes, which are NOT and should not be flushed are also contributing factors a municipality cannot control. Our bay is the end outfall for all of this starting in North AL.

There are many factors outside our control, but Fairhope is committed to being a leader in the elements we can control!

We have laid out a top to bottom 5-year plan which started this year.

We are all in this together and it will take a comprehensive, collaborative effort to effect positive change.

The following link is our plan, which includes $11M in RESTORE funding, is in place and has begun.

FACT: Councilman Boone and Burrell did nothing for four years, except for spending 13 million on a sewer plant located next to the Bay. For 22 million they could have relocated the sewer plant inland, which is what will eventually happen.

City of Fairhope responds to negative water quality report – Lagniappe Mobile

The public beach in the city of Fairhope stood out for all the wrong reasons in a nationwide study released today about bacterial contamination. According to a report by the nonprofit Environment America Research & Policy Center, a sampling site at Fairhope Public Beach in Baldwin County tested as “potentially unsafe” for 21 days, more …

Mayor Wilson has been fighting the good fight but encountering stone walls due to Council President Burrell and those who obey his misguided instructions. I hope that the nationwide public embarrassment to Fairhope will perhaps nudge Burrell to stop being such a showboating jackass and, for once, do what is best and just for the City. He can no longer hide behind his Gulf Coast News Today blog which routinely publishes ‘opinion’ articles on its ‘news’ site. What is real in his mind bears little to no relationship to reality. Fairhope deserves better. Why won’t the rest of the Council force him out of first chair and man up and put someone decent in that position? Jay Robinson has small children here; he would be a good choice for President for the rest of their terms. Once out of the President’s seat, Burrell will be less able to bully the rest of the Council members and City employees.

Because the council members are beta chucks. They aren’t real men. They are soy boys

Sick of Intimadating Burrell!

So, Fairhope has responded to the dirtiest beach in Alabama that it is not their fault – trying to blame other side of Bay etc. they WILL NOT except responsibility. The current City Council as well as the previous one & the previous Mayor has Totally RUINED Fairhope as has the Building department letting anything & everything be built here. There is no control at all, Overbuilding has caused the over flowing of sewage plan & simple. They want to build more & more – they want to put in MORE flowers & trees (to hide the mess in Fairhope). It is time to address the REAL problems in Fairhope & STOP trying to Dress It Up!!

Let us now go NATIONAL with this like we did trying to Promote Fairhope & put it where it is today. Enough is enough & we need to let everyone know exactly what Fairhope has now become.

Anonymous

No we can’t let everyone know. Cox and Prebble have many more houses to throw up and they have prepaid for the politicians
Hey council members: how does it feel to know you are owned by that Lyn Stacey group?
More people are figuring out how you are like merchandise: bought, paid for, and OWNED.
IF YOU HAD ANY REAL CHRISTIAN DIGNITY YOU WOULD BE ASHAMED

The Baldwin Observer

Lyn Stacey passed away earlier this year. The Catalyst brain trust needs replacing. So let’s see who can take his place… – Boone? No – he is not smart enough to keep the politicians in line. – Haygood? No, Haygood is happy because he has his own turf that he is exploiting, ruining, and ruling. It’s called Daphne. Also, he made Catalyst mad last year in his absolute rule of Daphne. – Ball? Ha! Let’s move on… – Joe Davis? If he can put down the bottle long enough, maybe – but he can’t put down the bottle. – Dorsey? He certainly has enough political free time on his hands but he cannot be found anywhere near the swimming pool in Belaton. He was last seen taking orders from Boone (oh no!) so who knows where he ended up. – Burrell? Nope, too visible. People see him as a bully to Karin. Bad optics. – Coleman? You know the councilman from Daphne who was picked by Catalyst. He works for Horton homes, is young, and lives in Haygood’s pocket. Well, that can rule him out. Haygood had a rift with Catalyst. On second thought maybe Haygood can take Catalyst back… Read more »

Fairhope is doing its role for the first time. Those who are staying tuned in know it. The bay is a large body of water and the outfall includes everything upstream. It’s common sense. There are many factors and it all must be addressed. Fairhope is an easy scapegoat. Blaming everything on Fairhope is blaming 1 kid peeing in a pool with 50 kids doing the same. Every sewer system that ties in to this enormous watershed contributes. And this is only part of the problem. Fairhope just happens to be located at the end of the outfall.

Georgia Orwell

You must be drinking the bay water if you think that Fairhope and our City Council bear little to no responsibility here! There is no more covering up of the role played by former Mayor Kant and the current/past City Councils (time for eternal President Burrell to step up and take responsibility for his actions/nonactions). Mayor Wilson is working to right the ship, but there are decades of mismanagement to be atoned for……..don’t blame it on Daphne!

Not buying it

So if the problem is caused by other sewage systems and “upstream” then why doesn’t the other areas register the high bacterial count?
Furthermore, Mobile River’s outflow is on the west side of Mobile Bay.
Even the Tensaw River hits Daphne and Daphne does not register the high counts.
I know people that work in Fairhope’s utilities. They tell me the sewer system is in bad shape and the council covers it up so they can let their developer friends keep building
If the council did care they would put impact fees or do a moratorium. But no, they made promises to their builder buddies like Corte, Cox, and Prebble.
Don’t tell me the poop in the bay is coming from the north, south, or west. Sell that to someone else

Ole Fairhoper

So if you say Fairhope is only part of the problem, then what do you think Fairhope should do?
I say STOP the building or make the builders pay for the upgrades. I know I should not have to pay. My family has been living here for over 80 years and we have been paying our share all these years
LET GROWTH PAY FOR THE GROWTH

I agree. We have locals who work at Garden & Gun in Charleston and also at Southern Living. This should definitely be at the top of their tourist destination news items (also cc to Atlanta Journal/Constitution, etc. Perhaps if Fairhope voters are faced with the rapid descent of tourism and property values, they will also eliminate the coin operated Council. While this is horribly embarrassing to the City now, it may be the pivotal moment for the changes in governance that Mayor Wilson has strived for. I love my home and Fairhope and my friends here, but I am at the end of my rope; am I the only one who has noticed that NO condos are selling these days? We ARE getting the word out!

Sad to See Fairhope Go Down

I myself called the Better Homes and Gardens office in Birmingham. The staff up there knows the TRUE condition of Fairhope.
Hey Council, if you had a conscious you would feel like the crap you allowed to be spewed in the Bay for what you did to Fairhope.
You are all going to be GONE this next election!

Poopy

Jay Robinson was my friend

More houses more crap

Mayor Wilson has to work hard because she has to fight the council who obstruct her
The council has allowed so much growth that it has stressed the sewers. The council doesn’t care because they do what Truland and DR Horton tell them what to do
Don’t give me the line about building out in the county. All the council has to say is the sewer plant won’t take it. But then the council will say it is the County Commission allowing it.
That is false as well
The real truth is that both the commission and the council are all owned by that catalyst group.

Tibby

Baby Ruths at the pier! Jubilee!! Call the younguns!!!

A Professional in Fairhope

The citizens of Fairhope including myself are more the stupid to continue to allow this to happen. Something has got to give & put a STOP to what we continue to allow to happen. Every single one of the current Council need to go as well as those on the building & zoning committees to continue to allow all this growth!!! All that shows in itself is they do NOT know what they are doing!!!

Anonymous

They DO in fact know what they are doing!!!! They are developers and work for them. That is why they allow all this out of control cancerous growth. When they have fully exploited this are they will pick up and move elsewhere
The voters bought that BS about Brown and his hometown just like the voters bought Christian Conservative

EaglescoutMom

Brown got a new house and a million dollar contract.

Huntsville transplant

The council makes to much under the table to stop the free buildibgm Burrell has a tab at mcsherrys that never gets paid…

No one

If that’s the case why did they still discharge millions of gallons of raw sewage into the bay just the other day? You can make a short term fix while you long term plan for inland sewer in the future. But do a quick fix to stop dumping everyone’s [email protected] in the bay. Daphne too.

Anonymous

Once again the council doesn’t care. They just want to let more and more houses to be built. They are builders. Sewage is not their problem. Let the taxpayers pay for that
The council does not care about long term

Sickofrepublicanlies

So Ripp…word on the street is your hanging things up after the next election cycle…no more Ripp Report. If this is true catalyst will return with a vengeance. This means one thing:

Catalyst has disbanded. ***ALERT***
The rats have abandoned the sinking ship.

Rest assured they will resurface under another name.

The word is out on the Eastern Shore…

Not the Illuminati

We will be watching the campaign reports of the candidates to see what Catalyst changes into.
Political candidates take note: If you use Catalyst or what ever it may be called in the next election, you will be exposed of this political conspiracy
We have reported you to the Federal Election Commission, the IRS and the FBI. While what you are doing is not illegal, some of the things you do “downstream” are illegal. The vendors the candidates use and their reporting, the donors, and the timing of payments can be questioned
We are watching you

Catalyst is not dead yet

Catalyst has not disbanded. They will go to ground do now. Watch Cox Horton and Truland find another honey pot to get their puppet politicians money

Slim Pickins

So where did all the utilty money go all then years?
Kant is a crook. Should be indicted for stealing sewer cash.

Burrell4congress

This website should be removed from the Internet. Catalyst is not a pariah. You are Ripp!!

Pariah

Do explain why Burrell has allowed the growth while sewage backs up, Mr Burrell for Congress?”
Catalyst is in fact the pariah you speak of. Ripp is not the only one who is into Burrell and Catalyst. You are just mad we have you figured out. You probably work for the cancerous Catalyst. We cannot wait to see you guys put out of political business

Burrell for Dogcatcher

Ripp must be pushing your buttons, eh, Burrell Fan?
It is about time someone pushed HIS buttons!!!!

Ripp Lover

Dear Burrell4Congress,
Why don’t YOU go ans start a blog of your own? Maybe you can explain why your friend Burrell is such a nice guy and he should take NO blame in why there is raw sewage at OUR once beautiful beach. What a fine job he has done.
He and his cronies on the council need to be indicted for their environmental crimes!
Signed,
Ripp Lover

So how exactly will the entire lower baldwin region transport people to and fro if it continues to force tens of thousands of new residents into subdivisions in close proximity to the beach? Who for the county is in control of overall planning? Paul, I am gonna hang up and listen.

Anonymous

Nobody is in control. The county will push it off to the city and the city will push it off to the county
Meanwhile the developers run rampant and trash the place. This is their plan
May their Christian Conservative souls be sent to hell

Everyone is moving here. Jesus H.

Dear Diary,
Went to the pier today.
What can Brown do for you?

Fairhope

He can blow smoke up your butt with “Robert Brown form your Hometown” or something like that while he and the rest of the council sells the town to the real estate folk.
Geez, the sewers are clogged and so are the roads with all the cheap subdivisions that are being thrown up in the town.

A Professional in Fairhope

Everyone needs to be calling & emailing the US Environmental Protection Agency so they can put a stop to the “Shit” in Fairhope! This will have to go National & on National Media to show what Fairhope has become under past Mayors, the current Mayor & the past Ciry Council & Current City Council – no one here is going to accept blame!! They have ALL allowed this explosion of growth to put Fairhope where it is now!! The End!!
