FAIRNESS

For the 10th time citizens packed the city council chambers to discuss the Fly Creek Apartments and again their comments fell on deaf ears. Four councilmen voted for the extension of the sunset clause that allows the developer another 120 days to get a multiple occupancy site plan.

WHY? Well, three of the council stated they labored over the decision and even prayed about it. You ever notice how many times religion and God come up with political decisions and how God must be responsible! Then throw in the word FAIRNESS, mix it up with a bunch of senseless gibberish and you have the perfect formula of B— Sh–.

Controversial Fly Creek apartments get extension – Lagniappe Mobile

The Fly Creek upscale apartment development was a key issue in last year’s Fairhope municipal elections, costing some city leaders their offices. At least some voters hoped with a new mayor and three new council members the controversial apartments to be built behind Publix would go away. That’s not what happened Monday when a crucial …

Mr Brown spoke, before the vote, about his long term relationship with Mr. Corte and spoke of him in glowing terms. If Mr Brown feels this strongly and has done work for Mr Corte, he should have recuse himself from any vote related to the project. Sound Fair?

Mr. Boone has a business relationship with Mr. Corte and the engineer company, who in turn have a business relationship with Mr. Corte. Sound Fair?

Conflict of interest?

Or Fairness, no no your in Baldwin County and as Senator Pittman has so famously said “we do things differently in Baldwin County.” Was he ever right.

Has the council been Fair to the citizens who elected them?

Has the council been Fair to the Mayor?

Has the council been Fair to hear an issue ten times and still not have an answer?

The council has ignored the fact that Fly Creek is full of red mud from the Publix site. And that the right of ways were graded away and all the trees, as well as every living thing. The council is forgetting all the violations. That Fair?

Mr. Corte and our former Mayor cost us $11.25 million involving the triangle lawsuit? Without any public participation they settled the lawsuit with the assistance of the last council which included Beavis and Butthead. That Fair?

The council has failed us and favored the land owner/developer again, the good ole boys are alive and well.

In the coming weeks you going to hear a lot about FAIRNESS. We will see just how full of it, the council is, when faced with some decisions of the past and how FAIR they were. Council attendance has been high since the election of Mayor Wilson, please stay involved, it’s going to get interesting.

Mayor Wilson has stayed the course from beginning until present, she has stood behind the citizens and opposed the project from the beginning.

FAIRNESS will not exist while Burrell, aka Beavis and Boone aka Butthead are steering a council more interested in keeping the developer happy than the citizens that elected them.

RUDE, CRUDE, AND SOCIABLY UNACCEPTABLE

BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD invade Fairhope Everyone in Fairhope, Alabama is now aware of the rude conduct of the two councilmen who were elected with little or no opposition in the last election. The mainstream news…

Fairhope will soon be gridlocked. Sell now and get out while you can. It was a nice run but Fairhopes charm is gone. The good ole boys are destroying it.

Tired of Conflict

It is now time to take all this conflict of interest crap on the Fairhope City Council who continue to vote on things they should not be voting on to Montgomery & take it to the group that got Bentley out of politics! what do we need to do to get this started??

Chrisjn

It’s called growth people. Get over it and get used to it.

Anonymous

Actually it is called SPRAWL

Growth is control of development by people who care for the community and not motivated by power and greed

Name calling is juvenile. Salient points made by adults using childish rhetoric lose their primary purpose of encouraging intelligent discourse. If you want to persuade people to your viewpoint, don’t call your opponents silly cartoon TV characters. It demeans you . . . not them.

Ben Dover

So how many of you schmucks are actually from Fairhope? My guess is that most or all of you moved here from somewhere else. Ripp for one isn’t. Anybody see the irony?

Tipp deport

I was wondering the same thing. Most of the opposition probably has moved here from somewhere else . This is not Nirvana dingdongs. If you want something to stay the same, buy it and sit on it yourselves.

Cattle This

The person calling himself Ben Dover is like his Catalyst friends – obsessed with anal references – gives you a good picture of what they are doing to the people in Baldwin. County…

Ben Dover

Exactly what Mr Ripp is doing to you sheep! You should be used to it by now, I guess.

Tip deport

If you guys want everything to stay the same, BUY IT YOURSELVES, then you can just sit and look at it.

Anonymous

Hey Ripp
You are getting to them. I am with you and I have lived in Fairhope for 45 years. Not that matters. But that’s all the “developers have to shoot back at you.
Never met you or any of friends but keep up the good work!!

Anonymous

Keep religion out of politics!!!

Locust Grove

Fairhope pumps raw sewage in the bay. It lacks vital infrastructure for hurricane evac and its high school is badly overcrowded. Kids learn in portable buildings the admin calls “cottages.”
Fairhopians need to wake up. Your government is corrupt and it steals the money that should go to fix basics. Look hard. Ripp has been telling us for years. Listen and get involved.

Anonymous

You, like Ripp, are an idiot. You do realize that the high school you refers to is a county run school right?

Anonymous

To the Anonymous who is calling people idiots. Put you name down. Probably had your ass whipped before. Shut up and go back from where you came from or leave your name if you chose to call people idiots who are certainly more educated about the facts than you certainly are!

Anonymous

Obviously one of the idiots I was referring to. Sheep!!

Booby J.

Maybe if the sprawl would stop…the school wouldnt be crowded?

Melvin

I myself am from Daphne. I did not move here but was born here over 50 years ago and have seen the developers move in and destroy Daphne. Now they are taking aim at Fairhope. Just look at the people in power and notice that they moved here around 10 years ago so they can exploit our home. These people run the towns and the county commission

\"Fed Up\"

In all fairness are we now going to give all the developers ten times to get it right?
I have replayed the video of the last City Council Meeting several times. On a lighter note, Mr. Robinson’s attempt at humor is disgusting and a waste of time at these business meetings. We can discuss his pen clicking and his chair sitting lower than everyone else’s AFTER the City Council Meeting. On a more serious note, Mr. Robinson talked about being scared of lawsuits …does this mean he will vote in favor of the developers who threaten lawsuits if it does not go their way? How fair is that??
Burrell, Boone, Brown and Robinson can do a lot of damage to our city in the next four years!

Anonymous

Yes! Yes! 100% correct! Growth IS absolutely inevitable. That is NOT the argument here. Plain and simple, if you want a beautifully planned town, you must fight for it. There is such a thing as smart planned growth. It does not make as much money for the developers. They would much rather stuff high density shitty housing. It’s true, that’s how you maximize the short profit and move on. You absolutely, 100% have a choice, Fairhope. Are you going to fight? Are you afraid of being called an idiot for doing so? Is that all it takes? We have something special here, don’t throw it away on threats of inevitability.

Sydney McCants

When you work for the developers and sit in the Council, you trade your vote for campaign contributions. Look at the politicos’ campaign reports and you will see where the money comes from so they can pay Catalyst. Even the lawyer representing the developer and a mayor of a nearby town is a Catalyst product

Anonymous

This is so true!!! It’s time for the council to start representing and get serious! It’s not a joke!
Let’s see them start working to make a difference in our community instead they are the problem and not the solution!
The department that you are a liaison for… Work to make it better… Think outside the box…..
And most importantly show up for meetings!
Council- Take a look at Daphne city council meetings and maybe you can learn something!

Melvin

Learn from the Daphne Council because Daphne Council will vote to let a 1,000 house subdivision be dropped on it and when the school system cries out due to the massive influx the Daphne Council threatens the school system.
The Daphne Council is nothing but a bunch of developers. Look at the mayor and four of the members and you will see they are either real estate interests or wsterboys for them. Maybe one will get hired away from a car dealership

Anonymous

Threaten them with a lawsuit and watch them run like scalded dogs

Anonymous

Respectfully, I think you must have misunderstood the part where he stated they could easily annex into Daphne, Fairhope would still get all the students, the traffic and none of the tax revenue. He also started at that point the city would have no control on any environmental regulations that are so vital to protecting fly creek. I appreciated his insight on the very possiable litigation that could cost Fairhope tax payers millions and we could still end up with development on the property! He is the only one I have heard discussing what possiable outcomes and choices the city has at THIS point responsibly move forward. He has a degree in finance and a law degree and seemed both knowledgeable and reasonable. Being scared and being smart are two very different things.

Also, I wish there was a little bit more light conversation… those meeting have become such an angry, dark place and that’s not reminiscent of our community. Everyone could stand to be a little friendlier in my opinion!

Hemiwolfgang4

Fairhope is a joke. People think their poop don’t stink. Bunch of necks. Sprawl city.

Jimmy Dean

When Jack has to run again it will be fun.
I’m looking forward to Kant running again too. Ripp is gonna have fun.
I wonder if Fair Hope is still the number two retirement destination.
Number Two sounds about right.

Anonymous

Finally, an intelligent debate. I agree, fix the sewerage system problem.

Anonymous

Sewage what Fairhopers have been fed a steady diet of for the past 30years

Anonymous

Maybe Iowa will take us back.

Locust Grove

Kant got beat because Ripp stopped them from fixing it. Not so sure he will be able to stop it next time.

Fairhope Native

Yes I am a Fairhope Native – lived here 60 plus years – I know how it use to be before the corruption which has been going on for some time. The new City Council is a joke – you have Burrell who wants to be the boss – very arrogant & downs the Mayor about everything, Boone who has met with Burrell before the meetings & rehersed everything they will do in the meetings ahead of time, Brown who we now see is up Burrells & Boone’s rear end (very brown nosed), Jay Robinson who is afraid City will get sued so we need to go ahead & approve so will not be sued – guess we can take anything now & get approved!! (If I was guessing – he is an Attorney) – Conyers – not quite sure but I do not think he is swayed as much by the others. The Council is not listening to the public that elected them – enjoy your last term – actually hope it is not a full term & many can get together to stop these conflict of interest violations. Burrell – it is not a “privilege” to let the… Read more »

Two big differences between The Ripp Report and The Baldwin “Insider”:
1. Ripp Report allows responses and comments while Baldwin “Insider” does not
2. Francis Paul Ripp uses HIS VERY OWN name. The Person or persons who write the Baldwin “Insider” remain annonymous and still do not reveal their TRUE identity.
Just an observation….

Actually I did not misunderstand what Mr. Robinson said. I feel your vote as a City Councilman should not be determined by whether or not you think a developer will sue the city or not. If that is how you determine your vote then you have just handed our city over to the developers who will threaten the city with lawsuits if they are denied. What do you not understand about that scenario?
I am not impressed that you say he has degrees in finance and law. I find that his reasoning is scary and not smart at all.

Anonymous

During that meeting, they explained its not just about being sued if denied. My understanding from watching is that they can build the old PUD at anytime which is much worse for Fly Creek or they can annex that land into Daphne and build whatever they will allow because of the boarders of the property. The point was they cannot stop development on that property. If they did not give back the time taken away by the moratorium, which the old council promised and entered into a contract at that time, it simply makes their case even stronger. So there would be $100,000 of dollars spent on litigation even if they denied the property and it would still be developed. I wish moving forward we would toughen our planning and zoning and get ahead of this type of development moving forward without costing tax payers. Paying out tax payer money on what appears to be a “no win” situation just doesn’t make much sense. If it is approved through the City at least we can do all we can to make sure environmental regulations are strictly followed and we can do our best to protect Fly Creek. The city has… Read more »
